The Famed 'Doomsday Clock' Is More Like A Liberal Angst Meter
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 1/26/2017 | John Merline

"Closer to 'Doomsday' Than Any Year Since '59" screams the headline in the Huffington Post.

The story, and many others like it, point to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' famous "Doomsday Clock," which is supposed to be a reliable indicator of the risk the world faces of a nuclear war.

The clock shows how many minutes there are until midnight, which was supposed to mean nuclear annihilation. This year, the group moved it to 2.5 minutes to midnight, 30 seconds closer than it was last year.

When the Doomsday Clock launched in 1947, the initial setting was seven minutes to midnight. Since then, it's gone up and down. The furthest it got from doomsday was 17 minutes in 1991. The closest was 2 minutes to midnight in 1953.

But it's clear from its movements over the past seven decades that the Doomsday Clock is more about politics than any sort of scientific measure of the risk of global nuclear war.

Exactly correct.

It has aways been nothing but a “Progressive” propaganda item, pushed by the Establishment Media.

The homeless and poverty should be making a huge comeback soon too!

Does it ever advance on the actions of the enemies of America?

The USSR almost launched a Mutually Assured Destruction attack in September 1983 because of a faulty reading that indicated to them that the US had already launched missiles.

The operator in Russia that day refused the order to launch and was reprimanded. Much later he was recognized for his action. He didn’t see anything going on the then current world situation that would have led to a US launch thus he disregarded the erroneous message.

That has to be one of the nearest times ever to “Doomsday” (MAD launches are like that).

Closer than the Cuban Missile Crisis?

The closest we ever got to doomsday was at the hands of drug addict and fraudulently elected President, John F. Kennedy at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

If Trump is such a buddy to Putin, why is it more dangerous for a nuclear weapons launch?

Did it budge when North Korea started setting off nuclear bombs?

Did it twitch when obama green-lighted Iran’s nuclear ambitions?

Did it have conniptions when Russia invaded the Crimea?

One FReeper in New Jersey reported that the local rag has already run three stories on the homeless.

About half of the Bulletin’s website and journal readers reside outside the United States.
Half of the visitors to its website are under the age of 35.

I’d say that since Obama and Clinton worked hard to bring about conflict with Russia that the clock should now be moved back, but the author is exactly on point, this is nothing more than a liberal angst meter.

Agree.

It's another Leftist-Marxist propaganda tool. Otherwise, nonsensical and useless to any thinking person.

From Watchmen

Janet Black: Doctor Manhattan as you know the Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face analogizing humankind's proximity to extinction, midnight representing the threat of nuclear war. As of now it stands at four minutes to midnight. Would you agree that we are that close to annihilation?

Jon Osterman: My father was a watch maker. He abandoned it when Einstein discovered time is relative. I would only agree that a symbolic clock is as nourishing to the intellect as photograph of oxygen to a drowning man.

Yes, liberal appeasement of our enemies sure hasn’t done much to prevent wars and potential conflict. On the contrary...
