Nope. Because it would be Americans paying for the wall.
This is just the start. Trump wants higher import taxes on everything. So get used to paying more for everything so the unions get more jobs.
It’s a cost to Americans only if it affects the end cost the consumer in America pays.
Some products have to priced based on their competition.
You can add 6000 in border tax to a 30,000 auto, but that doesn’t mean consumers will choose the 36,000 auto over the 30,000 one.
True, but this is all just negotiating Kabuki.
Heck, with our breathless media the wall may be paid for from extra popcorn sales.
And just maybe some of those American companies that moved their plants to Mexico will eventually come back. And some of those 96 million Americans not counted as unemployed but unemployed nonetheless will get jobs.
It is a Wall Tax that US-made business have already paid.
May as well pay a little more (not that I believe that will be the end result) and get a big, shiny, wall in return.
How do you know the Mexican producers won't lower their prices an equivalent amount in order to keep the prices of their goods competitive? If we put a tax of $1,000 on some Mexican products, and the producers lower their prices by $1,000 in order not to lose a sale, the US government will get the $1,000 and someone in Mexico will lose the same amount and the US consumer will not be affected.
That seems just as likely to happen as some blanket statement that the producers will never lower their prices and the US consumers will simply pay 20% more.
I've never read Art of the Deal, but if there's a chapter about how to get people to pay a bill while making them think someone else is paying it, I will.
We import a lot of our winter food from Mexico, and 20% will hurt low income families the most. They already suffer from diets low in fruits and vegetables. A much better idea would be to charge from 2% to 7% for money sent by illegal aliens to Mexico and elsewhere. There are any number of ways that the wall could be paid for. Years ago I had a friend from India. He said he was only allowed to take $10,000 out of the country. I don’t remember if there was a significant fee for taking out larger amounts. But there should have been.
Americans will pay the bill but Americans will also get the jobs, which is much better and worth the extra cost...so yes hit Mexico with 20 percent....maybe they will learn the cost of doing biz with drug cartels isn’t worth it now....in the era of Trump.

Call it a wash; less illegals in country = +security\+wages\-welfare\+workers = more $\taxes = ....
