They’ve deluded themselves for so long that the “facts” are what THEY say they are and what they believe. Those “facts” are colored through the lens of their liberal ideology.
FINALLY, they’re being challenged and all they can do is puff up their chests in defensive, self-righteous indignation. They are so egotistical and Trump is playing that angle beautifully.

I think that’s insightful. The media has been relentlessly pushing a Progressive ideology for years. Now they have to push a message that they are “serious” and “truthful” and that Trump is being “unfair”. That is the media’s focus now. They are struggling to assert their own relevance. They no longer have time to push much of a Progressive ideology.
