How to Talk Trump With Your Terrified Progressive Adult Children
PJ Media ^ | 1/16/2017 | Mark Ellis

If you’re like most American citizens, you’ve probably already personally confronted the place on the President Donald Trump love-hate spectrum that is opposite of yours. It may involve friends, family, coworkers, and even strangers. The singular characteristic of this dichotomy—though there are many points on the spectrum that are not absolute--is a polarized opinion of our new commander in chief.

Possibly the prickliest dynamic will be the interface between conservative parents and progressive-minded young adult children who have been steeped in a milieu of academic and cultural anti-conservatism. Such children—whether in public or private schools—have been propagandized by subtle or explicit disparagement of conservative viewpoints and ideologies since kindergarten. Continuing in elementary school, they were conditioned to accept without question the evils of right-leaning values and ideologies.

Are there “family assets”? Is there a will?

Dear child:

I’m sorry I obviously over coddled you. You need to grow up now, or you’re going to die. That is all.

Time for you to move out of the basement/attic and start a paper route. I hear there’s a great future in ‘urinalism’.

Gawd, I’m sick of this misuse of the word “progressive.”

There’s nothing progressive about communism.
If they’re that nuts, just don’t talk to them until they grow up.

If I had a kid going off on some kind of whaling and gnashing of teeth about some kind of cause I would say something like...

well you have me convinced...I will draw up a new will and leave the cause everything.

Just hand them a Copy of the Constitution and tell them you want a synopsis on your Desk in 24 Hours.

LOL. My millenial daughter is the least of my worries -- she may be surrounded by hysterical progressives at college, but she has adopted a cautious "I don't like him, but I'll give him a chance, let's wait and see" attitude, which is fine by me.

The real problem for me is that I live in the area of Ithaca NY, "City of Evil" and arguably the most staunchly progressive city in America, save possibly Portland, OR or Austin, TX. I have had to keep my mouth shut since last Fall, lest I risk relationships with friends, family, co-workers, even the people I do business with. This town is filled with hysterical maniacs.

Glad to hear someone believes similarly, workerbee!
Progress is typically a good thing. We should not attach them to anything or descriptions with a benefit to society.
I call them Leftwingers or Socialists. Both words with negative connotations.

I don’t have to worry about that. My two adult children voted for Trump and so did my Daughter’s fiance.

I think the capital of crazy is San Francisco.

I live in Denver, next to the People’s Republik of Boulder. Both have become snowflake cities. The hysteria is stunning. We have a liberal today announcing he is running for office because “we can’t stand by while Trump takes 400,000 off health insurance.”

Pajama boy: "Dad, will Trump put us progressives into camps like Rachel Maddow says?

Dad: "No. Well, considering progressives now are limited to New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C., I guess you're already in one.

"Such children—whether in public or private schools—have been propagandized by subtle or explicit disparagement of conservative viewpoints and ideologies since kindergarten. Continuing in elementary school, they were conditioned to accept without question the evils of right-leaning values and ideologies."

Unless those "children" have been engaged in discussions by "aware" parents during the period of K-through-College-entrance about the "propaganda" being transmitted by teachers and professors, then the task is going to be monumental.

By the same token, parents who have had discussions on class assignments and such over the years most likely will find today's "talks" to be much easier, and may even find the millennials taking the lead in such discussions.

Point? There is hope out there that the Left's "indoctrination" has not been as effective as they think.

It’s tough to blame the young folks. Indoctrination does exactly what it is designed to do.

I know that the indoctrination system is really strong in this country, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the parents duty to not let it happen.

Not that parents with these kids have failed, but it’s a never ending battle. My parents were conservative and I was your typical liberal 18 year old snot nosed kid too. I’m keeping my kids out of these environments. That’s my plan anyway.

It really shouldn’t be that hard.

All you have to do is point out that ALL the criticisms leveled at Trump are based in “rewriting” his reasoning for holding the positions he does. Then ask why the the opposition’s rewritten reasons are superior to Trump’s stated reasons.

What to worry about?

Ask the closest snowflake to you right now, “have you ever been shot at?”

If the answer is yes, thank them for their service. If the answer is no, show them their safe space.

Really, what’s to worry about snowflakes?

Exactly. We had regular deprogramming sessions with our last child during the nineties to undo the craziness that he heard at school.
It worked and it worked well.
