The Obama administration signed a law-enforcement agreement with Cuba Monday that doesnt call for the return of U.S. fugitives, including former Black Panther Joanne Chesimard, who is wanted for killing a New Jersey police officer.
The pact was signed by Jeffrey DeLaurentis, the de facto U.S. ambassador in Havana, and the Cuban Interior minister Julio César Gandarilla. It covers a broad range of law-enforcement topics, such as counternarcotics operations.
Also present at the signing was White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, who played a key role in forging Mr. Obamas policy of restoring diplomatic ties with Cuba in 2014.
The agreement does not include a return of U.S. fugitives that Cuba has harbored, including Chesimard, also known as Assata Shakur. Convicted of murder for the shooting death of New Jersey state trooper Werner Foerster in 1973, she escaped prison in 1979 and received asylum from Cuba. The omission of fugitives from the agreement was first reported by USA Today.
Cubas shielding of Chesimard and other U.S. fugitives, including Puerto Rican nationalist William Morales, wanted for the 1975 Fraunces Tavern bombing in New York City that killed four and wounded 50, has been a source of friction between the two governments for decades.
The agreement comes after the administration announced last week that it has ended the long-standing wet foot, dry foot policy that granted legal status to Cubans who safely reached the U.S. shore. . .

Planning ahead.
3 more days and hands down, no question, no argument, THE worst POTUS in US history is but a footnote.
FUBO!!!! I knew this MF’er would do this. He hates HATES our country, and somedaybI hope our country returns the feeling.
...it doesn’t say ANYTHING about giving a pardon to Chesimard though....
He loves the Black Panthers, cop killers, and terrorist bombers. Prove me wrong.
Tear it up, not worth the paper it’s printed on in 75 hours 4 minutes.
She’s probably living a worst life in Cuba than she would in a federal prison.
>>...it doesnt say ANYTHING about giving a pardon to Chesimard though....<<
YET!
...knowing the scumbag, he’s already arranged it
and made plans to transport her back with new I D and all
It’s only fair- we get their criminals and they get ours.
Did something I typed make you think I believed differently?
I suspect that part of the dealing between Trump and Putin will be that Trump lets Putin keep his backyard in order, and Putin lets Trump do the same...so in this case, Cuba will be cut loose, and likely liberated - all before the end of the year.
That would be nice, happy, ending, for the Castro legacy.
“POTUS”
Just remove the T & U and you have the most accurate description!
cut loose and then along with Hati
Puerto Rico, Haiti and Cuba then become the territory of the carribean
He does not have the authority to pardon her. She was convicted in a state court for murder. All of the Federal charges against her, at the time, resulted in either dismissed or acquittal. .
She’ll wind up in the US under an alias.....with
Government help, if not already
Wet foot, dry foot... in reverse.
Maybe so, but the nationwide man hunt for her could start as early as Friday afternoon.
You just wait for 0b0z0’s list for pardons. Some notables:
- Wesley Cook, aka, Mumia Abu-Jamal. As 0b0z0 flips the bird to ALL, especially police forces, and to support the Black Panthers Party, Black Lives Matter, Islamists and Hollyweirdos who tried to get the bastard released by making him a celebrity.
- Chesimard. Doubling up for the above reasons.
- O. J. Simpson. He ‘suffered enough’ kinda thing.
- Hillary Clinton. Pardoning her in self defense and culpability in the top secret email scandal. The Clinton Foundation was closed a week before Trump presidency. Shredding and BleachBitching were completed. Move along, nothing to see here.
- Bergdahl. To slap the military in the face, thus, completing 0b0z0’s disdain to and utter hatred of our uniformed Americans. I don’t know if he’ll find a way to diss firefighters.
- Gitmo residents, to order prison closed down? I wouldn’t put it past him.
BTW, in particular, the pardoned police killers will never die in their beds. I don’t think they’ll survive accidents, suicide, robberies gone wrong, etc.
