You can thank Cam Newton for this dopey fad. It is something you do to try to prove that you are hip and with it (especially if you are white). The most cringe-worthy example was the CA Democrat senate candidate that dabbed at the end of her closing remarks in her debate. Unsurprisingly, she lost.
