Where was Sasha Obama during her father’s farewell address?
WaPO ^ | 1/11/17 | Samantha Schmidt

It was one of the more emotional moments of President Obama’s farewell address. His eyes swelling with tears, he spoke of his wife, “Michelle LaVaughn Robinson of the South Side,” and then, of his pride in their two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

“Under the strangest of circumstances you have become two amazing young women,” Obama said. “You are smart and you are beautiful. But more importantly, you are kind and you are thoughtful and you are full of passion.”

“And,” he added, pausing for applause, “you wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I have done in my life, I am most proud to be your dad.”

When his family joined Obama on the stage, at the close of his farewell speech, they held hands and waved at the audience, creating an image of the family that mirrored a similar one from more than eight years ago, at Obama’s victory rally in the same city. But one member of the family was missing: the youngest, Sasha.

If I were to become President of the United States of America, and a WAPO reporter wrote a piece about one of my children, good or bad, I'd go over to that reporter, have my bodyguard form a circle so the reporter couldn't run, and, like Jerry Reed sings in When You're Hot, You're hot, I'd try a little bit of him, or her, on.

School policy is that travel is not an excuse to miss a test.

It’s a good standard.

Do you honestly think that any school administration would tell a kid they can’t do a makeup test because their father, the President of the US is giving a major speech.

No, but if I were President, I could see not letting my kid cut school.

A story about Coolidge and one of his boys lifted from another FR thread:

(Coolidge) had a very human side. He was a devoted family man who doted on his wife and deeply loved his two sons. He tried very hard to instill in them the same values he had been raised with, respect for hard work and thrift. While serving as president his younger son Calvin Jr. worked as a field hand at a tobacco plantation in Virginia. When one of the boy’s friends noted that if his father was President of the United States he would not be cutting tobacco in a field, young Cal replied “if your father was my father you would.”

Yes. I feel sorry for both of the girls, growing up with their parents. I used to feel sorry for Chelsea Clinton until it was confirmed that she was cut out of the same lying elitist leftist immoral cloth as her parents. But maybe the obama girls will see the light. It has happened before where total leftists produce conservative children. Not too often.

Let’s don’t stoop to the low the liberals did with Barron Trump...

She dabbed at her eyes to wipe away the dryness. I am sure she was told to do that so the scum media could remark on her wonderfulness.

I'm waiting for Rosie O'Donnell to speculate on Twitter if Mailia has autism or something / did you see how she kept blinking and looked disoriented last night?

Won't be holding my breathe however....

Yeah, when I was a teenager, I did remarkably stupid things too. Didn't have the entire national media waiting there to photograph it, though.

The kids already have two strikes against them with parents like BO and Mooch. I say, leave 'em alone. At least until they grow up.

One of my co-workers remarked on the awkward exchange between Malia and her dad after the speech. I thought ‘typical teenager’ but then wondered that the other one must have been sick to not be able to be there. I certainly don’t buy the idea that she had a test the next day.....
