Critics say Jeff Sessions' confirmation hearing too short, too few witnesses

The rules set by Sen. Charles Grassley, a Republican from Iowa and chairman of the Judiciary Committee, schedule Sessions' hearings for two days, with one day mostly devoted to testimony from Sessions and the second day featuring testimony from nine witnesses -- five called by Republicans and four called by Democrats. The witness lists are still being finalized; a Judiciary Committee spokeswoman told AL.com that the names should be made public on Monday, a day before the hearing.

After the two days of testimony, the 16-member committee will then vote whether to send Sessions' nomination to the full Senate, where the senator will need a majority of members to confirm him to head the Justice Department.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the body, is pushing to delay the hearings in order to extend the confirmation process, allow the committee to call additional witnesses and gather more information so the committee can better judge Sessions, who has been criticized for handing the committee an incomplete questionnaire for review.

Sherrilyn Ifill, president of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, argued that a lack of witnesses means Sessions won't be getting a proper vetting. Among her concerns are whether the committee will hear from Alabamians who can testify that Sessions is "not a civil rights advocate."

"It speaks to the refusal to the leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee," she said on the Friday conference call. "We need time, and we need witnesses, and we need an opportunity to fully untangle the responsibilities of attorney general."

Those poor Rats ... they need time ... they need witnesses ... they need an opportunity to fully untangle the responsibilities of attorney general ... and most of all, they need to get someone who will overlook the sins committed by Democrats!

Got a flash for ya Sherri Baby.
It's not the AG's job to "advocate."
His job is to *enforce.*
As in things like immigration laws.

Absolutely critical Sessions is confirmed posthaste. I just found some more stuff on Harry Reid bribery - which links to Podesta etc - that will blow people’s socks away. Sessions has to indict a whole bunch of the Dem criminals or we are sunk.

It is going to be great sport to watch Democrats for most of 2017 complain and moan that they aren't getting their way.

Today’s body politic is about making deals with Sessions people to not prosecute certain folks in exchange for voting for his confirmation.

Not a civil rights advocate. In other words, Sessions doesn’t support affirmative action or programs that emphasize race and not ability.

Democrats would like at least 6 or 7 months to gather information and question the nominee. For the children, of course. Nothing is more important than “our” children.

Exactly. The Dems will use any delaying tactic to try and halt Sessions confirmation. Grassley was right to limit the hearing, and of course the left is whining like a bunch of babies. Good. It’s about time our side stiffened its spine!

They have knows Senator Sessions for decades. Hearings are about grandstanding, not about serious inquiry.

Just hope the jackets among the GOP are silenced. Dogs like McCain and Graham suck up to the Dems and the Media.

Just like they took the same time and care in vetting Obama’s candidates... oh, wait, they didn’t.

As Obama said, elections have consequences and we won.

This has nothing to do with Sessions’qualifications’ and so much more to do with establishing precedent for when the Dems expect the pendulum to swing back in their direction. They are plotting an absolute ram rodding when their turn comes again.
