And even if Nat refused to acknowledge Him, may God speed the man to his rest.

RIP - one of the independent free thinkers worth reading.
Those who created this country chose freedom. With all of its dangers. And do you know the riskiest part of that choice they made? They actually believed that we could be trusted to make up our own minds in the whirl of differing ideas. That we could be trusted to remain free, even when there were very, very seductive voices - taking advantage of our freedom of speech - who were trying to turn this country into the kind of place where the government could tell you what you can and cannot do.

No! :)
Tom Hayden?
Yes. And Roger Vadim and Ted Turner.
Yes, I remember the Margaret Kelly Michaels case well—it was part of THE most shameful witchhunt in modern American History, which went on for YEARS and ruined the lives of numerous innocent people, a virtually satanic collaboration of the politic needs of Law Enforcement, the Judicial System and politicians all up and down the latter. That’s the way Hentoff characterized it: “the Salem Witch Trials are alive and well in New Jersey” he wrote.
Great story. Civil discourse is rare today. He was a good man and I enjoyed his writing.
May he rest in peace.
