Nobody, Trump probably included, thought Mexico would write a check to pay the invoice for building the wall. Trump never said when Mexico would pay or how they will pay. He just said that Mexico will pay. I have noticed that Trump is deliberately vague on some things. When asked for details he says “We are going to take a look at it.”

Such an Eeyore you are. What is it with erstwhile FReepers with “dawg” in their screen names, lol?

Would you be so kind as to list the areas in which you support Donald Trump? I suspect it’s going to be very short.

Congress approved the funding for a Border Fence years ago.

What did they do with that Money?

They are just afraid that Trump is just the guy that will actually get it done.

Yep.

Heck, I would love to help build it. I would like to get my hands on blocks going in the wall.

I think that would be participating in history.

And then I would like to patrol it. With my German Shepherd.

She will definitely help keep squirrels out, that I can tell you.

Well let's keep to the topic. I fully support Trump's plan to build the wall. I do not believe for a moment that Mexico, even if Trump is serious, will pay for it. And I don't care. So long as the wall is built.

This explains why Mexico is rioting over gas prices not being subsidized anymore and the peso crashing. The free ride they’ve enjoyed literally for decades is ending.

Read this for some details about just how much money is being sent to prop up Mexico:

100’$ of Billions$ in money transfers from US to Mexico annually, just tax 10% of that (a tithe) as a start.

Yep - Juan Williams was just on “Outnumbered” (one of my favorites on Fox) and was trying to make hay of the “incongruity” even though the gals told him it wasn’t the first time Trump alluded to using funds for expediency and getting paid back down the road. Mexico is having serious problems right now which will make them more tractable.....

Tax all Western Union-type transfers of money to foreign countries.About 25% should be fine.

Did anyone think other wise ?

Getting the money out of mexico is easy via

1. Tarriff
2. Taxes on money sent to Mexico from the US by the illigals

Now that will take time....so...

We can WAIT on building the wall till we get the money from Mexico.....or....

We can start NOW on building the wall (we have the money) and still get the money from Mexico the very same way we would if we waited

Building the wall and geting money out of Mexico for the cost of it is TWO policys....

I support this two policys

1 Build a wall
2. Penalize Mexico by tariffs and money transfer taxes for the cost of that wall

I even support a third policy that Trump did not propose

3. Continue to penalize Mexico by tariffs and money transfer taxas after the wall cost is covered for the cost of illegal presence of Mexican citizens in the US

It depends how one defines “pay for”. I can see a scenario where taxing wire transfers to Mexico that originate in the US, either a percentage of the transfer or a flat fee, could “pay” for the wall. Of course one could argue that in that case it’s not the Mexican government paying but Mexican citizens here.

That’s just one example though. I’m not even sure something like that could be done, at least not easily. I don’t know if such a fee could be imposed via executive order in other words. Seems to me Congress has to pass a law initiating it. And that could be difficult. Not to mention I don’t know how fair that would be to those here legally, sending money down to Mexico. And what about those sending money to other Latin American countries; would their wire transfers be so taxed or only those to Mexico? Again, a fairness issue seems present there.

Personally I am doubtful the wall will be built at all. I realize a law has already been passed authorizing its construction. However that only authorizes a fraction of the money needed to build a real wall. So there ultimately seems to me there is a legislative battle looming no matter how one cuts it.

We shall see though. Again personally I’ll be happy if the wall is built. I never believed it would/will happen so I certainly never believed in the “Mexico will pay for it” promise. That was campaign balderdash. Anyone should know that.

I will be impressed if he gets the wall built. And a real one too not some flimsy fence. If he gets a real one built that will already be gravy. Getting extra funds to pay for it, from any source not our tax dollars; well that will be gravy on top of gravy for me.

I completely agree ...

From the get-go, I assumed that we would want to build the wall as quickly as possible and then pump out the flood of illegals that is within the country ... similar to damage control aboard a torpedoed ship: seal the hole and then pump out the water.

Then we would go about making Mexico pay for the wall ... increased tariffs, taxing remittances, cutting off welfare/support payments to illegals, and anything else that the mind can come up with that will generate revenue at Mexico's expense. In the end, Mexico would be "paying for the wall".

I never figured that we would wait to generate the revenue before building the wall. That leaves the border exposed for longer than it should be. I mean, in the end, although I believe that we will get enough revenue from various sources to make Mexico "pay for the wall", getting the wall up is more important than worrying about that now.

Before President-elect Trump, we would have been happy if the Feds had just build the dam* wall even if we had to pay for it ourselves.

I resemble that remark; who are you to disparage dawgs? Dawgs are awesome.

True. And if you try, as Trump says, to limit the fee to only those who are here illegally then how do you determine legal from illegal? Mexican from someone else? Do grocery stores become your Border Patrol?

I am prepared to take Trump at his word that he's serious about this. I don't think it will be built at anywhere the costs he has thrown about, but the border has to be secured.

USA will pay for the Great Wall.

No more silliness, the Congress & Presidents stole the wall money, in their big treason.

Who cares who pays, just build it, big solid concrete, steel reinforced.

Let the MSM haggle, while it gets built. Use welfare money while creating jobs.

Borrow huge debt for the wall. Have the Fed pay for the wall with funny money.

It is the only debt worth something.

Instruct the Fed that Wall Debt be monetized first priority.

+1. Mexico paying would be nice but the important thing is to get it built ASAP.
