The Palmetto Ridge High School Marching Pride Band erupted in cheers when they learned they would be representing the town of Naples and the state of Florida at the 2017 presidential inauguration.
"It's not really about politics, this parade, it's the position, we're marching for the President of the United States, not specifically Donald Trump, even if it had been Hillary, not specifically for Hillary," Drum Major Robert Colvin told Fox 4.
In other words, the Marching Pride has American Pride.
It will be the first time any band from Collier County, Florida has marched in the Presidential Inaugural Parade. And I suspect there are many proud moms and dads and grandparents in that part of the state.
"It's one of those things you tell your kids 'I was in this'." the drum major told Fox 4.
This is the moment when the marching band discovered they would be performing for the president-elect:

And here is some video of the young musicians preparing to make the Sunshine State proud on Inauguration Day:

The school's student government association posted a congratulatory note on Facebook: "It is an honor to play in such an historic event, and showcase what Palmetto Ridge is; a place of diversity, love, and acceptance."
I know a good many Hollywood celebrities who could learn a lesson from the students at Palmetto Ridge. There's a time to put politics aside and unite as one free people.
Now, most of the kids in the marching band come from working class families and they only learned they had been selected a few weeks ago -- so you can imagine they could use a helping hand.
They've set up a fundraising website and I hope you will drop by and lend the kids a helping hand! Click here to help! And then drop by their Facebook page and let them know how proud we are!
I'd rather see young patriots like the Marching Pride than a bunch of auto-tuned, lip-syncing, Hollywood A-Listers!
It appears those kids can teach the majority of Harvard/Yale/Columbia/etc marshmallows the meaning of a REAL education.
Taking part in any sort of celebration for Hillary or Obama being elected president is no-ways a display of American pride, unless one is totally clueless as to what they are about.
Bump...for this school!
I agree.
It’s about the process. It’s the peaceful transitioning of power regardless of the specific personality involved. It’s respect for our nation and its’ history and procedures. I’m so glad these young adults have the good sense to recognize what an honor it is for them to perform at the Inauguration of the nations 45th President.
I would never march in any parade for the likes of someone like Hillary or Obama. Refusing to participate would be a more appropriate display of American pride.
“It’s one of those things you tell your kids ‘I was in this’.”
This kid GETS it!
My 24 yr old daughter is a diehard Rush baby since the age of 6. She was selected to sing at the Lincoln Memorial for Obama in 1/09. Garth brooks placed her front and center behind him. It was a wonderful once in a lifetime experience for her. As a Washingtonian, I’ve exposed my daughters to first hand political experiences on both sides. They were present at the Supreme Court when the bush gore protests were happening (not the best decision on my part for small children thank God Greta VS and CNN let us hang with them). It’s important to experience and learn first hand. It offers a unique perspective.
Me personally?
I'm thrilled Hollywood filth is staying home. They're disgusting little haters.
And the White House Correspondence Dinner? That should be moved to Hollywood where ‘reporters’ can kiss the butts of Hollywood ‘elites’ AND our represenatives (republican) should boycott the event.
Good for them.
What a racist that Trump is, he seems to have chosen an all-black band./s
The dinner for reporters?
The only thing they deserve from President Trump is the extended middle finger.
The band's GoFundMe is now $125,055 of $135k goal! With more coming in every couple of minutes.
Looks like they will be going. Woot!
$133,715 of $135k goal!
$135,705 of $135k goal!
Woot!
