Over the last 8 years, in addition to fighting Obama's numerous wars, the US army has served as a gigantic social sciences lab under this president.
Gays can serve openly, as can transgender people. The government will even pay for some gender reassignment surgeries for trans soldiers. Women are now eligible for some combat roles, including special forces.
It seems that President Obama has cared more about imposing his cultural agenda on the military rather than winning wars.
Now, in the waning days of the administration, the army has decided to take the idea of a "uniform" and turn it on its head. If approved at the brigade level, Muslim and Sikh soldiers can now wear the hijab, as well as grow beards for religious reasons.
Army Times:
Since 2009, religious accommodation requests received by the Army have largely been from soldiers wanting to wear a hijab or a Sikh turban or patka with uncut beard and hair, according to the directive.
"Based on the successful examples of soldiers currently serving with these accommodations," Army Secretary Eric Fanning wrote in the directive, he decided to move forward with those accommodations as long as the colors match the uniform of the day.
"The Army has reviewed its policies to ensure we allow every opportunity for qualified soldiers to serve, regardless of their faith background," Lt. Col. Randy Taylor, an Army spokesman, said in a statement. "We believe in preserving the First Amendment right of free exercise of religion for those who want to serve in the U.S. Army."

I’m wondering how the Sikhs are going to fit their beard into a gas mask. Wasn’t that one of the major reasons for the shaving requirement?
While I respect the Sikh tradition as soldiers, unlike yarmulkes which can be worn under a cover and hidden, the turban cannot be worn under the standard uniform nor can the hijab. It’s a uniform for a reason unless they want to form separate units with those variations. These are US soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines not Sikh soldiers, or Moslem soldiers. This is a choice the individual will have to make to comply or not serve. They are not drafted, they are volunteering so perhaps they should not be accepted if they set preconditions.

Can you imagine seeing an entire football team with each player wearing something different from the other players on his team? CHAOS! I hope Trump will change back to a “standard” uniforms and stop all the politically correct crap.

It’s actually bigger than that - it’s “infected” almost all staff across the board in Congress - that’s why everything coming out of that cesspool is tilted toward the “gay culture!”
Anyone remember how they purged even scripture on rifles then burned hundreds of thousands of Bibles in Afghanistan? Meanwhile four times more soldiers have been killed there since soeter0 took over. Is the army going to just scrap the uniform code(s) to be PC? Lip service or real?
This isn’t really new. I did a short TDY to Fort Bliss back in the 70s and noted that a number of soldiers in the 3rd ACR were Sikhs and wore beards and turbans while in uniform.
Those responsible should be discharged.
Something which I had never heard before popped up in a recent documentary about Adolf Hitler. During WWI he had a big mustache, almost a handlebar. During a gas attack, his mask leaked because of the big mustache. Thereafter, he shaved it down to what he wore thereafter.
