Some Palo Alto residents are headed to Washington, D.C. while others are organizing locally to protest the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump later this month.
Holly Brady, a Palo Alto writer, will be in the nation’s capital for the Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21.
The protest takes place the day after Trump is sworn in as the 45th president of the United States.
Brady said she’s offended by Trump’s comments about women, especially his reference to grabbing women in the genitals. She’s also concerned that he will roll back women’s rights to abortion and follow through with plans to deport immigrants.
“Every time I hear Trump on TV making outrageous statements that somehow draw people to him, I feel a visceral kick,” Brady said.
The high cost of hotels in D.C. during the inauguration was a drawback and Brady made the decision to protest there only after she managed to find housing and travel with a group from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palo Alto.
“I guess I can give the money I’m using for my airfare to the Southern Poverty Law Center,” Brady said, “but it feels really important right now to stand up and be counted.”
Other Palo Alto residents plan to attend marches on the same day in San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento, among other Northern California locations.
The Peninsula Peace and Justice Center has organized a #NotOurPresident protest on the day of the inauguration, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 20. Protesters will hold signs to form a “human billboard” picket at the corner of El Camino Real and Embarcadero Road.
Paul George, the center’s director, said the roadside protest is a reaction to the mean-spirited nature of Trump’s campaign.

Only illegal aliens.
Immigrants are people who applied in their home country to be Americans, paid their fees, waited their turn, learned the language and complied with the laws.
Illegal aliens did none of these and they will be deported.

I’ll bet that only 2% of the wymyn marching have ever had their genitals touched by any man.
The Never-Trumpers are all members or supporters of groups that receive some sort of special government treatment.
Or they are supporters of some sort of leftist government program.
And they all sense the end of their free ride or special access is near.
It might be welfare or other handouts, tax breaks, subsidized medical, invites to the White House, Affirmative Action, special treatment due to sexual perversion, anti-Jewish or pro-muslim government programs, support for Black Lives matter, open borders, government grants, etc.
One way or another they know that President Trump is going to change their world.
