An Israeli military court convicted an Israeli soldier of manslaughter Wednesday in the fatal shooting of a wounded Palestinian knife attack suspect. The Palestinian, Abdel Fattah al-Sharif, 21, was one of two men accused of stabbing another Israeli soldier in the West Bank city of Hebron in March.

Charges were brought against Sgt. Elor Azaria after video footage emerged showing him shooting Sharif in the head as he lay on the ground, injured and already subdued.

The second Palestinian suspect had already been shot dead.

The case against Azaria has divided opinion among the Israeli public, politicians and members of the military, and focused attention on the military's code of ethics.

Why should they treat him and let him go, to return and try the same thing? Has anyone heard of any Palis who “saw the light” and gave up trying to kill Israelis?

"Netanyahu said he should be pardoned. I agree. I hope Netanyahu will pardon him ASAP" Charges were brought against Sgt. Azaria was a patriotic Israeli soldier, living in a combat life/death situation who knew the moslems were often wired with explosives _ firing a shot into Abdullah was a matter of self preservation!

This isn't tiddlywinks, it's war. You either allow your troops to win, or you doom your country to failure.

I saw somewhere where it said he faces up to 20 years in prison. If not pardoned, how much time realistically would he actually spend in prison?
