Dr. Manny: 3 Main Reasons Why ObamaCare Failed
Fox News.com ^ | January 4, 2017 | Dr Manny Alvarez

Vice President-elect Mike Pence met with GOP leadership today on the Hill and told the public that step one of Trump’s presidency will be to make good on a campaign promise to repeal President Obama’s flailing Affordable Care Act. While we have dissected the many strategies that Republicans can take in crafting their own plan, let’s take a look at three major reasons why ObamaCare failed the American people.

1. Skyrocketing costs: At no point in time did the $3-trillion-a-year ObamaCare plan work in favor of controlling the soaring health care costs in our country. While middle-class consumers were hit with massive premium hikes and medical centers grappled with high-end costs of providing services that saw little-to-no federal reimbursements, the law included a provision that allowed chronically ill patients to opt-out of paying for health care coverage until they needed it without incurring any penalties, further causing costs to spike. It is much more cost-efficient for medical providers to continually care for a chronically ill patient than it is to deal with a patient in a critical state.

2. Low levels of doctor participation: The law did not take into account that there were not enough medical providers around the country -- particularly specialists -- that would accept federally funded insurance programs. Many subspecialists including cardiologists, orthopedics, oncologists and the like refused to accept patients enrolled in ObamaCare and Medicaid. Patients were turned away from potentially life-saving care while the doctors and their staff who did accept this patient population became overwhelmed with cases, paperwork and soaring medical costs. Not only did this diminish the level of care patients received with physicians spending less time in the exam room and more time doing administrative work, but it further discouraged others from becoming involved.

It’s costing me an additional $8k per year. Another FReeper indicating it’s costing his family an additional $15k/year.

We lost our preferred hospital, our doctors/pediatricians, and local clinics. Deductibles are insane.

Obamacare is extortion.

They left our punitive rates for the middle class.
Huge deductibles and out of pocket limits.
Crappy government web site system done by Obama’s wife cronies.
Terrible paperwork.
Annual renewal nut-house system.
Coverage for pediatric dentistry for senior citizens but many needed items excluded.
Staged and delayed implementation so the impact was not understood by the populace.

A $1,000,000,000+ website to start things off is no good harbinger of costs.

Another important reason it failed:

Obamacare was built on LIES!

It failed for ONE reason: it was based on and sold on the basis of lies.

Keeping your plan.

Keep your doctor.

Annual premium reduction of $2500.

It was lie after lie after lie after lie, and most of the Democrats — Senate, House, and Obama — were repeating the same lies.

And just why are you eating these costs??? Any of the Christian health outfits or their non Christian clonse will provide what you get from obamacare at a cost more like what the monthlies were pre-Obama with far more doctors compatible with the system. The days of low deductible comprehensive medical insurance are long gone and will not return so long as the Government has its hand in the Medicine and in Insurance, but you can get a much better deal than the ACA allows.

"Built on lies" is a truism for government systems and is irrelevant. It is a government system thus it must be increasingly expensive and a failure.

1. It was designed to fail, albeit by a 1000 paper cuts, in order to create a national demand for single payer federal healthcare

To me, it is one of the most insidious pieces of political junk since the inception of the IRS.

Number 3 has nothing to do with the present.

OCare failed because it was poorly thought out or because it wss designed to fail.

Very nice, but completely misses the Major Objective:

ACA was designed to fail so it could be replaced by Single Payer.

(And we still ain’t completely clear of the woods on that sorry prospect...)

They slapped me with a $6,000 deductible so it’s worthless.

Imagine auto insurance were run like Obamacare. First there would only be a single policy that mandates coverage for cars, trucks, boats, RVs and motorcycles even if you only want to insure your car. Insurance companies must issue coverage to everyone regardless of their driving records... thus good drivers must subsidize the cost of insuring very bad drivers. You can buy car insurance after you have had an accident.
