People fleeing New York outnumber those moving in by 2-1

The clearest sign that the "blue model" of governance is failing can be found in statistics compiled by United Van Lines, the nation's largest moving company.  They report that outbound residents in New York outnumber inbound residents by 2-1 – a higher percentage of any state except New Jersey and Illinois.

Overall. the East Coast is seeing an exodus of citizens, with 59% of moves in that region outbound.

Albany Times Union:

The 2016 National Movers Study by Fenton, Mo.- based United also found that almost 59 percent of the moves within the eastern United States were outbound.

Where were people moving? Mostly to western states and the Carolinas, with one exception. That exception was Vermont, which ranked second on the list of states with the highest proportion  -- 67 percent -- of inbound moves.

South Dakota had the highest share of inbound moves, at 68 percent.

New Jersey and Illinois, like New York, saw outbound moves making up 63 percent of all moves.

"This year's data clearly reflects retirees' location preferences," said Michael Stoll, an economist and professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. "Interestingly enough, these retirees are leaving at such a fast pace that the movement of millennials to urban areas in the Midwest and Northeast is being overshadowed."

In New York, inbound millennials were 27 percent of inbound moves and 19 percent of those moving out. But of those over 65, 26 percent were outbound and 20 percent were inbound.

While retirees make up a significant percentage of people moving out, the fact is, people are voting with their feet.  Walter Russell Mead has written extensively about the failure of the "blue model":

The Governor said if you’re a conservative, he didn’t even want you in the state.

Victor Davis Hanson also wrote this week that a study of u-haul in California indicates many more outbound moves than inbound.

ew STAY THERE. You know what happens. These lefty loons flee their cities that are too expensive and violent due to THEIR politics and people who were voted in by THEM. Yet, they’ll leave to a nice conservative area and start voting for the same shitty politicians who will create the same shitty policies that ruin a city.

The report is actually about the Tri-State area. It’s understandable given taxes and housing prices and corruption. I’ve been looking to buy in NYC for 6 months - absolutely impossible.

Just spoke to a life-long New Yorker that is going to North Carolina to look at homes, TONIGHT.

Wants to get her kids out of Brooklyn.

The combination of:

1. High state income taxes.
2. New York City local income tax.
3. The banning of fracking to extract plentiful natural gas in the center of the Marcellus Shale in upper New York state.

Explains why people are leaving that state in droves. Even the big Wall Street firms based in the New York City area are moving their operations to New Jersey, of all things.

I really think that we could see a movement by the counties of upper New York state to separate out into their own state so they could start to extract out natural gas (and possibly crude oil) using fracking, which would result in a major economic boom an revive every town along I-90 from Buffalo all the way to Albany.

That damned Bloomberg and his millions have wreaked havoc on our once sensible gun laws out here in Washington. Of course, inbound Californicators don’t help, either. Bassturds!

RE: OK, Where are they moving to?

READ THE ARTICLE. It says:

“Mostly to western states and the Carolinas, with one exception. That exception was Vermont, which ranked second on the list of states with the highest proportion — 67 percent — of inbound moves.”

"..Where were people moving? Mostly to western states and the Carolinas.."

Well make up yer dang fool mind. First they say we're all vacating the "East Coast". Then they say there's an influx into the "Carolinas". I ain't no geographical expert, but last I checked, the Atlantic Ocean was about 30 miles due east of my current AO in Burgaw, NC. Sounds like we qualify for "East Coast". Mebbe they meant to say peeps are vacating the Northeast.
Which is it, chief? d;^)

However, we’re told constantly how great these liberal utopias are - people love the benfits etc. You mean we’re being lied to?? Tell me it isnt so! LOL...

So, the down side is extreme. All those loons moving out have to go somewhere. Sadly they pollute fly-over-country and wind up ruining a nice slice of what used to be America. Liberalism is the ideology of death and destruction, everything they touch is blighed.

Communist states that tax everything highly and prevent their citizens from defending themselves from criminals.

Who could blame them for fleeing?

Problem is they move to Virginia and elect Clinton’s Bag Man as Governor and TIMMAY! as Senator ruining our once great Commonwealth.
