Well, it has otherwise been pretty much a perfect day.

Disappointing, but not at all surprising.

DRAIN THE SWAMP.

NYT: "Long considered the party’s intellectual core, Mr. Ryan..."

All by himself?

The either don’t understand or don’t care. Either way, they’re on borrowed time.

Yeah, ThomasMassie of KY voted for Dan Webster.

Well Ryan was Trump’s choice, a near unanimous vote seems appropriate.

Fine. Just do your damn job for once, Ryan, and don’t you even think about obstructing President Trump’s agenda in any way.

Better get used to him, he’s going to be in Congress for a long time.

That depends very much on how he conducts himself over the next two years of President Trump's first term.

there are no serious conservatives in DC, at least not serious enough to challenge the status quo as that would threaten their own positions.

There are some conservatives in the House that are at least more conservative than Ryan. One can get a rough list of them by the ACU ratings. It's not perfect but it shows there are 99 people in the House with higher ACU lifetime scores than Paul Ryan and 141 Republicans with LOWER ACU ratings than Ryan. So Ryan is in the middle of the pack so-to-speak and actually leans towards the conservatives based on the ACU ratings. So the problem is much bigger than Paul Ryan or just wishing some conservative would replace him.

My Rep Gary Palmer is a conservative in the House but has only been there since 2011 and is probably invisible to the power structure .. which gets to your point. Until we have conservatives that want the Speaker's chair and are willing to fight for the job and secure the votes of their peers we can not really expect to control the Speaker chair.

Well, I read the first 30 comments and predictably no one likes Ryan.

In my opinion, his strong conservative principles will be obvious by mid-year and all of you will be able to relax finally. He’s going to prove to be one of the best Speakers in a long time, again just my opinion.

A new Congress takes office. There are 2 fewer GOP Senators and that’s a VERY bad thing, even if one of them was Mark Kirk. It was disgusting to see that Suckworth creature sworn in by a gleeful Plugs Biden. And the election thief, Maggie Hussein Obama of the People’s Republic of New Hampshire. And the selected Senator from Alta California, Kamala “Obamaette” Harris.

There are also several new house rats including faglord Charlie Crist who owe their jobs to lib judges. BOOO.

In the Speaker vote, not much drama this year. Thomas Massie, the Clown Prince of Kentucky, voted for Dan Webster again.

Pelosi had more defections, Rice (NY-4) and DJ’s Rep Cooper voted for Tim Ryan. Sinema voted for John Lewis, again. And Ron Kind voted for Cooper.

Pelosi voted for herself as usual. Ryan did not vote, nor did OR Rat Kurt Schrader.

The House planned to but ultimately scrapped plans to abolish the democrats so called “ Office of Congressional Ethics”, sounds like that’s a shame.

Massie is a Paultard. If you prodded him, he’d probably admit that he voted not for Congressman Daniel Webster of Florida, but for the 19th century Senator Daniel Webster of Massachusetts, because “the Constitution does not specify that the Speaker must be alive.” : )

I’m old enough to remember when a Representative voting for Paul Ryan for Speaker instead of casting a protest vote for someone not man enough to run against Ryan at the prior month’s Republican caucus was a sure sign that such Representative was an untrustworthy RINO without a conservative bone in his body. So I guess that we’ve got 240 RINOs in the U.S. House, and with a President-elect that also supported Paul Ryan for Speaker, we are DOOMED. IT’S UNIGOV ALL OVER AGAIN!

Or perhaps we actually have the most conservative GOP House majority since at least the 1920s (if not ever), even if the Speaker did not place a bomb under Obama’s chair during the State of the Union speech as a “real conservative” would have done.

I detest RINOs, but when one uses the term to describe a pro-life, pro-gun, pro-marriage, pro-tax-cuts, pro-national-security, pro-limited-government, pro-individual-freedom Republican, one cheapens the term beyond recognition, and we no longer have a proper term to describe leftists in sheep’s clothing.

Regarding the Democrat defections, it’s funny how a far greater number of RATs refused to vote for the Hairy Sissy (isn’t that a literal translation of “Nancy Pelosi,” in the same way that “Enchanted Penis” is a literal translation of “Magic Johnson”?) than the number of Republicans that refused to vote for Paul Ryan, just like the number of electors pledged to Hillary that didn’t vote for her was far greater than the number of electors pledged to Trump that didn’t vote for him. Yet the MSM keeps insisting that the GOP is divided. They’ll probably keep saying that while we adopt a conservative agenda and repeal Obama’s excesses.

Cheeky post!!

:D

I was unaware of the origin of the Pelosi name, lol. Of course “Caesar” also meant “hairy”.

Now it’s the dems that face “civil war” talk, though sadly I think the reality of our electoral system will prevent any fracture.

Actually, the Speaker can vote if he wishes but usually refrains from doing so.
