The U.S. economy has been dragging along at sub 2%, 20 (T)rillion in debt, interest rates for elderly savers at zero for years, trade deficits with almost every country round the world and millions of the worlds impoverished flooding across our borders to further overwhelm our infrastructure and social safety nets.
So...if we are a nation of roughly 330 million folks and we have 94 million working age citizens outside the workforce (see national debt clock), how is it that our unemployment rate sits at 4.6%? Should it not be upwards of 30%?
