We recently received a disappointing ruling in the case of Bill Diss, a Portland, Oregon public school teacher who was fired after he objected to facilitating a Planned Parenthood sex education program in his classroom. The judge granted the defendants motion for summary judgment, which means the case cannot go before a jury. Life Legal is appealing the decision.
Bill Diss became enemy number one with his local Planned Parenthood affiliate when he led opposition to a new PP mega-facility in downtown Portland.
When Planned Parenthood employees wanted to come into Diss classroom to recruit students for their Teen Outreach Program, or TOP, Diss said no. TOP is a federally-funded sex ed program that targets children as young as 10 years old. Diss respectfully asked to be excused from facilitating the program, as the content violated his religious convictions.
The school refused and then fired Mr. Diss.
The same Planned Parenthood affiliate was caught on video giving a 15-year-old girl advice on how to access pornography and engage in dangerous, deviant sexual acts.
The lower court ruled that teachers like Mr. Diss should not be afforded the full protection of the Constitution when they have religious objections to teaching content that violates their most deeply held beliefs.
Life Legal vehemently disagrees and we have filed notice to appeal the decision to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. We are honored to represent Bill Diss and we will continue to fight for his First Amendment rights.
.
Prayers for Bill Diss and his family.

Christian-hating activist judges are wrongly repealing constitutionally enumerated rights from the bench.
The right response should be for all right thinking parents to demand, not request, the immediate dismissal of the administration. They should remove their children and organize a tax revolt until their demands are met. Until there are consequences to this type of behavior there will be no relief.
Ping for homeschool interest.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Planned Parenthood - another organization to be banned from Federal Funding
I’d be curious what the higher appellate law says about such situations, so as to know what kind of situation this lawsuit faces.
And yet. I bet he’d be welcomed by many a parochial school now. Sometimes you just can’t stuff something down the monster’s throat, the monster is so bad.
I believe in working Christian issues in Christian ways. Even Paul’s appeal to Caesar was in order to get his witness a direct hearing at that level. Maybe that’s what the dissed Mr. Diss has in mind; I don’t know. However at this point in history it looks like we are due for a sea change anyhow, with Trump coming to the helm and not particularly friendly towards this kind of garbage. A few tweets from the Man and that school district may be begging to get Diss back. Patience may be in order.

And, when the mob throws the rope over the light-post, he, and the rest of the Socialist, would be the 1st to scream and plead vs. Rights...
Unfortunately, there are not enough decorated light-posts...IMHO.
Not only must you bake the counterfeit wedding cake, you must now corrupt the children.
The parents won’t do anything that impacts the school. My husband went through something similar when he was still teaching, though it never came to such a distinct point.
Parents were upset with admin. Told us they supported him, wrote letters to the editor in his support, some even gave small gifts of money to us but all of them kept kids there.
