A North Carolina judge is temporarily blocking a new Republican-backed law that strips the incoming Democratic governor of his control over election boards just before he takes office.
Wake County Superior Court Judge Don Stephens ruled Friday that the risk to free and fair elections justified stopping the law from taking effect this weekend until it could be reviewed more closely. Stephens plans to review the law Thursday.

Free and fair? There’s some irony for you.
The people split their votes, Suffer the consequences.

I think some Democrat cheating occurred and cost McCrory.
The legislature can impeach the judge. That would send a good m message.v
As usual, there's one law for Democrats (who are allowed to do anything) and another for Republicans, who, if they win an election, will be restrained by the courts.
It's more than a little ironic when a judge restrains the legislature complaining about "free and fair" elections.
“I think some Democrat cheating occurred and cost McCrory.”
Well if he had been a popular governor cheating would not have mattered. I don’t know anything about him, but evidently the people of NC didn’t really like him all that much. Someone here from NC might want to let the rest of us know they why.
How about the right for NC residents to not have a fraudulently elected Governor, Judge ?
Government by the will of the judges.
The GOP tried to be dictators but it failed. Although the ruling is temporary so who knows.
They probably golf together, Cooper after all was Attorney General. He would know all the judges and which one to use, so laughable. Also letters have already been going out to people whose services are no longer needed, not so laughable.........
Not a big deal.
The Chief Justice of the NC Supreme Court will decide all matters on the disposition of the case in a few days.

Whenever I hear the word “fair,” I think of a board game; nothing more consequential.
Cheating always matters. If it comes down to a close election of a couple hundred vote winning margin, and one side just happens to "find" some extra ballots in the trunk of someone's Prius in the local DNC parking lot, that has huge ramifications for policy which affects us all.
The margin is irrelevant.
And then it's off to a leftist federal court which will unconstitutionally insert itself where it has no business.
What happened to elections have consequences? The people elected a republican majority legislature and so we should get to make the rules. There is no constitution that says laws have to be bipartisan.
Ever notice Democrat entities passing moonbat and evil legislation never seems to get reviewed and halted by judges ?
My take is he suffered a hit due to the various boycotts related to HB2 (bathroom law) and the Duke Power coal ash pollution.
McCrory suffered because of fighting the men in womens bathroom issue that perverts screamed about. McCrory was a wonderful, compassionate governor. The 94,000 votes that came in after 11PM from heavy Democrat Durham cost him the election.
NC is a judicial oligarchy.
