Petaluma cops looking for suspect in pellet gun theft at sporting goods store

Petaluma police are looking for a man they believe stole a black-and-tan BB gun from Big 5 Sporting Goods.

The theft occurred Tuesday about 9 p.m., when a white man, approximately 25 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds, entered the store and took the gun without paying for it.

The man was described as wearing a black beanie cap, black leather jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, light gray-and-tan shoes and a purple backpack.

When employees confronted the man outside the store, he fled on foot.

The gun police say he took was a Beretta PX4 Storm Recon Air Pistol pellet gun.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer B. Sawyer at the Petaluma Police Department at 707-781-1248.

It is odd this is news. It is simply petty theft. In fact, as the amount is so low it is probably a misdemeanor.

What else is odd is that the average cell phone takes better pictures than most surveillance cameras.

One of the perpetrators, who was described by witnesses as whitish, 30-50 years old, somewhere around 5’-6” to 6 feet tall and weighing between about 195 and 275 pounds, is reported to have stolen a steak knife during the incident.
