Santa Rosa High School teacher’s post-election poem went viral
Press Democrat ^ | 26 Dec 2016 | Chris Smith

Snip In his 14 years at the school, Lyon has performed no reading remotely like the one that resonated throughout the historic campus two days after the presidential election in November. He said the response of many Latino students to the election of Donald Trump compelled him to write and broadcast the piece.

The day after the election, “it felt like a funeral,” he said. “People were wearing black and crying. It felt like death.”

Lyon had students coming up and asking, “Are they going to deport me now?” He felt the fear was pervasive. About half the student body is Latino, and many students who are citizens have parents or other family members who risk deportation. Non-Latino students feared for their friends.

“It’s hard to find a kid who doesn’t feel threatened,” Lyon said.

He found that he had to declare something to all of the students worried the president-elect’s vision for America does not include them.

“I felt like silence was unacceptable,” the teacher said.

He sat and found that the words to “We Love You No Matter What,” pretty much streamed out of him.

A student used a cellphone to video him as he spent four emphatic and impassioned minutes delivering his poem over the school’s public address system. He began, “You guys that don’t like my poems, please respect this one.”

Then he launched into the piece that cemented his place as the Panthers’ poet laureate. An excerpt:

Dear undocumented students,

In this school

There are no walls

To keep you out

Dear black students,

Your lives matter

To us

Dear Muslim students, You are not terrorists

The teacher says "We love you no matter what>" Somehow I do not think that applies to Trump supporters.

“Choose your own bathroom” should be their school motto. (And tell me again why it is we won’t let these people secede and form a country more to their liking?)

Let’s keep California and expel those who would secede.

Lunatics like this are teachers... and we wonder why California has turned into a viscerally immoral, hostile, lawless and alien territory.

Works For Me! How many could we move to Alcatraz island? Just for starters then find some atolls in the pacific for the others. Make them pay for the move too.
IMHO

We’ve got educated, talented (and law abiding) people standing in line to immigrate to this country, real immigrants who could contribute and make America stronger, and this cowbird chick wants to stimulate our tear ducts for her illegal, gate-crashing parents with this pathetic treacle.
No sale.
Foster care, adoption or go back home with your border jumping parents and get to the back of the real immigrants’ line.

We’re either a country or we’re not. Enough of the USA serving as the nursery and dumping ground for the western hemisphere.

“And tell me again why it is we won’t let these people secede and form a country more to their liking?”

Because the land they occupy is some damned fine country, and those butt-munches can’t have it.

If they want to secede, give them Death Valley.

I’m in CO, and I am appalled at the weapons-grade stupidity of school teachers even here.

They’re very serious, and if we don’t take them seriously, they’ll be the ones that get the last laugh.

“Are they going to deport me now?”

If you have to ask that question - they should.

oh noes. The mexicans who are here illegally, taking our jobs, raping and dui-killing are upset? People that shouldn’t even be here are crying? That’s too bad. It makes me sad.

They don’t need any of our land. Have them do a “Trail of Liberal Tears” into Mexico. Baja should be big enough to make their paradise in.

I know, I know. As the punchline to the old joke says, “But you took the part of Mexico with all the roads!” Remind them that they didn’t build that by themselves, and they should get busy.

Half of it can’t sustain itself. It’s not nearly as great as made out to be.

and.... we will eliminate the”anchor baby” farce so that the entire family can be legally deported together. No more breaking up families and the heartbreak that brings. Who said I don’t have a heart?
