Mucking Out the Justice Department
weeklystandard.com ^ | Fred Barnes

Sessions, as Trump's choice for attorney general, has the job of draining the swamp at the Department of Justice and making DoJ great again. It's going to be a grueling job with many facets. The good news is that Sessions, a former U.S. attorney and Alabama attorney general before he was elected to the Senate in 1996, is familiar with all of them.

Rolling back the excesses of Justice under his predecessors Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch should start immediately. Extreme positions in cases in federal court will need to be changed. One example: defense of the "guidance" letters that propound a radical notion of transgender rights.

The "Ferguson effect" that has weakened law enforcement ever since the August 2014 rioting in the Missouri town should be confronted. President Obama and Holder exacerbated it by putting police officers under a constant threat of federal investigation and second-guessing of their conduct.

Selective enforcement of the law—actually nonenforcement—began early in the Obama administration when Justice declined to prosecute armed members of the New Black Panthers who had intimidated voters in Philadelphia in the 2008 presidential election. Since then, immigration rules, the Defense of Marriage Act, and the federal requirement to maintain the accuracy of voting rolls have gone unenforced.

First off, the entirety of the US Attorney force in this country should be fired on day one. Every one of the US Attorneys AND their staffs. Replaced with law abiding patriots.

Oh! We still have a Justice Department?
If it can be found, Jeff Sessions will do so.

All political appointees under Obama must go, from every agency. The well is poisoned.

I sure hope that Trump and Sessions are ruthless. The cleansing must be total.

Eric Holder at the direction of Obozo transformed the US Justice Department into the “Just US” Department of Injustice. That was perpetuated by Loretta Lynch.

Soon it will be the duty of Jeff Sessions to restore a Constitutional Rule of Law where all citizens receive equal justice under the law. And where laws are not selectively enforced at the will of the POLs. (We are not a Monarchy or a Dictatorship)

>>>Step one, take a page out of the clinton hand book and FIRE every current state US Attorney.<<<

but . . . but . . . but . . . the liberals won’t like it! They’ll say mean things about Donald Trump. They will say it’s unconstitutional. When they are reminded about their own Bubbha they will say it never happened . . . it’s fake news!

Like their base would know anything else.

Trump has already asked Preet Bharara US attorney for the Southern District of NY to stay on. He is the US attorney who indicted Dinesh D’Souza. He also has a good reputation for going after corrupt government officials, however.

The first two are heavily staffed by left-wing ideologues who have burrowed into civil service jobs. Firing them may not be possible.

AGREED!!

But Transferring them to the NEWLY CREATED DIVISION in Nogales on the Mexican Border can be done overnight!!

Selective enforcement of the law—actually nonenforcement—began early in the Obama administration

It began early in the Clinton Administration. The neocon war in Iraq did inestimable damage to this country. Bush simply did nothing much to reverse Clinton. In fact with DHS he made it far worse. And he filled the agencies with his and Cheney's own incompetent sycophants. The view that we want the government to do not very much so we will put in do nothings at the top has been disastrous. The bureaucracies can do plenty of damage when the guys at the top do nothing to bring it to a halt. Getting the government to do nothing takes active measures

they can’t be fired - they CAN be re-assigned to the coldest regions of the union with 3 weeks’ notice. Move or quit.

This is the solution suggested by J. Christian Adams, the atty who quit over the Philly voter intimidation case being dropped.

The Democrats have given Trump a wonderful gift. The knowledge that, no MATTER WHAT he does he will be vilified and protested to the maximum amount possible. This will free him from the concept of compromising in order to get them to “like him”.
