Europes open borders may symbolize liberty and forward thinking for some but they increasingly look like the continents Achilles heel.
Europes No. 1 terrorism suspect crossed at least two borders this week despite an international manhunt, and was felled only by chance, in a random ID check. The bungled chase for Berlin attack suspect Anis Amri is just one example of recent cross-border security failures that are emboldening nationalists fed up with European unity. Extremist violence, they argue, is too high a price to pay for the freedom to travel.
Defenders of the EUs border-free zone say the security failures show the need for more cooperation among European governments, even shared militaries not new barriers. Hidebound habits of hoarding intelligence within centuries-old borders, they contend, are part of the problem.

No idea. Freedom v security??
Why should not allowing in people from anti European regions affect Germans’ security OR freedom in a negative way? They can have both. They are idiots
...They can have both. They are idiots...
They are liberals.
“Let’s self-inject with a syringe of HIV virus, slap a bandaid on the pin prick...and we’re good to go.”
Yep, that’ll do it.
Europe hasn’t figured it out? You can’t have freedom without security. And that includes secure borders and a core of cultural and legal standards that are ingrained in shared experiences.
Whose freedom is being weighed? It doesn’t seem as if the freedom of actual citizens is at stake, just “immigrants” with bad intent.
So long as the countries of Europe are held hostage by the Muslim minority pouring into their lands, they shall enjoy neither freedom nor security.
Throw off your chains, o great mothers of the colonization of North America!
They have a choice of being subjected to outrageous acts of violence perpetrated against them, or defending themselves against such terrorism. It is not a question of security over freedom, it is more like a choice of life over death.
Purge the Moslems. Keep the freedom and the security.
There are other problems related to Schengen, of course; and you’ll have the “Europhiles” blather on about their sacred “freedom of travel”.
fake comparison.
It freedom and security versus open borders
The problem is Europe is and never will be one. This idea of mobile freedom is truly based on memories of past simpler times, like days when you could sleep with your front door open.
Islam can be read as death cult that likes to play nice as their roots grow deep in new lands; but once they get their foot-hold, their demands and cult behavior springs forth all over and you then see the total cancer that has been allowed to fester. This can kill the host, or at least they hope so.
The open borders were supposed to be for Europeans traveling among European countries.
It has worked pretty well. It only stops working when you pretend that muslims are Europeans. It only stops working when you open your borders to non-Europeans.
Close the borders, Europe. Also, DEPORT those camel bumpers. Any questions?
No, it has not worked very well. There are tensions between those of “European” descent when they move to other countries, which shows the error of attempting to create an artificial “European” demos (much like the USSR attempted to create the “Soviet people” out of several different nations). So it goes beyond the acute problem of Muslims, never mind such from Africa and Asia Minor.
Countries that have hate speech laws don’t get to discuss Freedom.
Might offend someone, don’t you know.
Never mind no constitutional resource to push back with once a pushback occurs. It’s force against force.
Who other than politicians wants the freedom to import more Muslims?
They let the criminals in as an excuse to treat everyone like a criminal.
In this way, people will gladly give up their freedoms.
