Trump’s embrace helps Iowa family cope with death of daughter killed by illegal immigrant

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — There was a time when Scott Root and Michelle Wilson-Root looked forward to Christmas, but not this year.

Their 21-year-old daughter, Sarah Root, was killed Jan. 31 by Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Honduras accused of plowing into the back of her vehicle as he street-raced while drunk in Omaha, Nebraska. He skipped bail. Nearly a year later, he remains a fugitive.

For the Roots, this is the first Christmas without her, their first since the tragedy put them on a path with President-elect Donald Trump, who brought national attention to the case as part of his call during the election campaign for a crackdown on illegal immigration.

The Roots and their 25-year-old son, Scott Jr., met with and campaigned for Mr. Trump in Iowa. His Nov. 8 victory was their victory, too. That doesn’t make Christmas any easier.

“It’s going to suck,” said Mr. Root, his blank face a contrast to the cheerful green and red decorations at the local Starbucks. “Just like Thanksgiving sucked. Empty.”

Sarah was my daughter's best friend. Michelle had shared the story about Mr. Trump tearing up when she shared her story with him. Man has a soft spot.

It’s not a soft spot - It’s any father who has a daughter!

I don’t know what to offer. Prayers can’t heal that. May this wetback get hung when brought to justice.

Over and over and over and over again, I describe high level criminals who commit crimes and then flee. They have no family or roots here. They do whatever they please.

Note in this article, they mention an alternate name this guy was known by. Guess why! Five’ll get you ten, he’s wanted somewhere else for a high level crime.

These guys move from area to area to area under different identities cheating the criminal justice system. Our citizens are victimized time after time by many of these people.

This has to stop. They only way for it to stop, is to evict the squatters.

Marriage, parenthood, growing old, and facing death...

The final steps in wisdom...

There’s a reason God’s ultimate design for us was a solid family situation.

Anyone who hasn’t had a child, doesn’t understand the loss of one.

Over the years, it has been my viewpoint that people should not be church leaders if they haven’t been married and had children.

Actually they knew his correct name was Edwin, but it was mistyped by the police I believe. We had a Honduran preacher who told us if his name was Eswin, it would be rare. If you go to the ICE Most Wanted website, he’s listed as Edwin. They suspect he’s still in the states working on a roofing crew.

Ironically, my wife and I just came back from a Bahama cruise and you have seen the fruit thrown away because people couldn’t bring it with them, but yet you can walk across the border. I tell my liberal friends to Google the steps you need to legally take a dog to Mexico. Insane.

Yes it is insane.

I will say that fruit can carry in all manner of insects that could devastate our fruit industry.

It has happened before.

Your point is valid though, the things they do check in the insects they do let in. LOL Just kidding. They’re not insects, by they are parasitic, many of them.

So sorry for your daughter’s loss and for her family’s loss. The injustice of this death is mind-boggling!

Why can’t we hire someone to track these thugs down if law enforcement won’t do what we pay them to do?

Give it six months.

You won’t recognize the place.

These guys are going to be picked up, prosecuted, and or jettisoned.

Try getting a pet into Hawaii. Their quarantine laws are revenue generating scams to support the socialist state.

-

Some of the kindest, most caring people that I know never had children.

Some of the nastiest had children.

It depends on the individual.

Mears I’m not trying to dog on leaders here.

When it comes to family counseling or grief support, what words do you use to comfort or correct someone you can’t identify with?

I once had some problems with one of my children. The child was acting out at school. I took corrective measures any parent who wished to teach their child right from wrong would take.

The problem was that I was dealing with an adult who had read a lot of “Spock” and was convinced you never tell your children no.

In the interest of peace, I agreed to consult with a church deacon that had been referred to me.

I hadn’t been in the first meeting for more than two minutes when the guy looked me in the eye and asked, “Why do you think you have to control what your children do?”

What do you say to that? This guy didn’t have a clue. It was a waste of my and his time.

I set myself up for failure by agreeing to see the guy at all.

If I as a parent shouldn’t be involved correcting my children when they are acting out, who should?

How does a guy consult two people going through a rough time if he’s never been involved in a long term relationship?

What insights could this guy have if he’s never been a man in a long term relationship, hasn’t dealt with a woman’s actions in that type of relationship, has never had children, and has never lost a close relative?

I think a leader needs to have experienced life before he can relate to some of the biggest mysteries of life.

It has nothing to do with intent, or kindness, or sympathy. It has to do with knowing from first hand experience the intricacies of life, at least some of them.

If this wasn’t true, children would know as much as adults. There would be no need for adults.

I didn’t get the reference, “Angels 30”. Perhaps I should have. At any rate, I’m okay with sending them out too, but if they’ve been involved in some crimes, I want them to face the charges.

So very sad. Who would have ever thought that this country would get to the point where we are just begging to have the laws enforced?!
