PITTSBURGH - An armed man who was attempting to rob a business Friday morning on Pittsburghs South Side was shot by an employee, authorities told Channel 11 News.
The incident was reported just before 8 a.m. at the Subway restaurant in the 2700 block of East Carson Street.
Authorities said the armed man entered the Subway and demanded money. One of two Subway employees told officers that he felt threatened and shot the man in the chest.
"One of the employees who has a concealed carry permit and has a firearm apparently felt threatened for him and the other employees in the store, and shot the actor at least once," Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said.
The man fell to the ground, crawled out of the restaurant and got into a vehicle, police said. He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
Officials said the person who drove the man to the hospital was being questioned but is not facing any charges.
The employee who fired the shot has a concealed carry permit. Police said neither employee was hurt.
After the shooting, a SWAT situation began to unfold on Chestnut Street on Pittsburgh's North Side. Schaffer said two people, whom police believe are connected to the incident at Subway, were barricaded inside a home.
Virtually certain the spineless company is going to fire this employee.
And, of course, Subway will fire the brave employee. Oh well, better to be unemployed than dead.
Shows how low and unattached these people are. Just how much cash is there in a Subway.
Too bad he didn’t kill the SOB.
It is getting so bad that a black man cannot rob a store without having to worry about being shot. We need more gun control /s
BTW. Nice shot. Center mass. Perhaps a larger caliber may be warranted as the perp was able to flee. Wonder what caliber was used?
I bet they don't. The tide has turned.
Great story to start a great weekend with!
The Subway here was just robbed the other day. In a town of less that 10K. But, right off the freeway.
Really stupid and lucky cuz no one had their weapon but easily could have.
I managed a franchise once for a while. Never more than 200 in cash in the drawer. Cash drop into floor safe for every 200 in the drawer since opening. Btw, for some reason the I was told/ordered to enter 400 everymorning into the computer for cash. It was then corrected Saturday and again on Wednesday.

Pow!
Sounds like a justifiable self defense shooting.
He can find a better job than Subway anywhere. Once the facts are clear and everything calms down, if it is as portrayed, he'll probably have all kinds of job offers.
Was the perp one of those D-listers on Martin Sheen's "vote your conscience" video? Inquiring minds want to know
