Egypt delays UN resolution on Israel as Trump raises concerns

Egypt has suddenly delayed a vote on its UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the West Bank as Donald Trump made his opposition clear. A US official told the BBC that it had been considering an abstention, which would have allowed the motion to pass. Israel then contacted Donald Trump's transition team to intervene, an Israeli official told Reuters. Egypt's resolution called for Israel to stop building new settlements, which it said breached international law. It was to have been voted on in the UN Security Council on Thursday, but Egypt withdrew it hours before the meeting was due to start.

After the postponement of the vote, an Israeli official told Reuters news agency that it had warned the Obama administration in advance that it would appeal to the president-elect if the US abstained, and confirmed that it had directly asked Mr Trump to intervene.
Egyptian President Abdel al-Sisi also spoke to Mr Trump by telephone. In a statement, Mr Sisi’s office said the two leaders had agreed the new US administration should be given a chance to deal with the issue.
Mr Trump takes over as US president on 20 January.
However, four other members of the security council warned that if Egypt did not press ahead with its resolution before the end of Thursday, other member states would do so.
New Zealand, Venezuela, Malaysia, and Senegal said they reserved the right to move ahead with the vote.
None of the four are permanent members of the council, but are serving two-year terms.

Let the UN pass what it wants. It will hopefully soon be broke, out of Manhattan and even more irrelevant than it is now.

Obama planned to cripple US efforts in the Middle East by allowing this resolution to pass in the UN.
He was Trumped.

But I look at anything in the MidEast through the lens of “What does China want?”. And in this case I haven’t a clue.

No violation here,. Trump isn’t really a private citizen, and the smarter portions of the world may realize how he and the people who supported him feel in <30 days. There is no good reason for them to go and step on their hanging anatomy and apparently even Egypt can understand the situation of doing something that their betters see as hastily and ill conceived. If an entity as “palestine” REALLY needs to exist let it come out of the territory of a muslim country, and if no takers step forward then it shows the rediculous nature of the mear idea of a “palestine” state. If no one else wants to take them, why should they be forced on the civilized nation of Israel? ...Why do these people need their own country anyway the Romas in Europe do ok without one and it didn’t work out well in Liberia, so perhaps this would be just as bad or worse..2¢

I’m just feeling better that Trump has been courting and surrounding himself with Top military brass type people.

You’re holding a reasonable standard. Obama clearly is not. Dropping security screening for Muslims and then having the records of entry destroyed? One can taste touch and smell the spite in Obama’s actions.

If the Democrats had any sense they would introduce emergency impeachment proceedings. The GOP will be more than happy to oblige.

The fact that his cabinet with Biden hasn’t stepped in and neutralized him is a testament to the lack of quality and character of the people he chose to guide him leading this country.
