The Trump Nail in the Media Coffin (VDH)
RCP ^ | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 12/22/2016 5:41:35 AM PST by RoosterRedux

President-elect Donald Trump probably will not often communicate with the nation via traditional press conferences. Nor will Trump likely field many questions from New York/Washington journalists.

What we know as "the media" never imagined a Trump victory. It has become unhinged at the reality of a Trump presidency.

No wonder the fading establishment media is now distrusted by a majority of the public, according to Gallup -- and becoming irrelevant even among progressives.

Once upon a time in the 1960s, all the iconic news anchors, from Walter Cronkite to David Brinkley, were liberal. But they at least hid their inherent biases behind a professional veneer that allowed them to filter stories through left-wing lenses without much pushback.

When Cronkite returned from Vietnam after the 1968 Tet Offensive and declared the war stalemated and unwinnable, no one dared to offer the dissenting viewpoint that Tet was actually a decisive American victory.

A FReeper stated yesterday(I’d attribute if I could remember):

The Irrelevance Front (TIF)

Victor Davis Hanson absolutely nails it.

It has been a long time coming.

We are now in an acknowledged era of a partisan press.

It is what the country had for half its lifespan.

Great article except for:

“All of those assumptions are no longer true. News outlets such as The New York Times and NBC have no more credibility than most websites or the National Enquirer.”

I do trust the National Enquirer on political matters, they actually do report the truth.

My sincere hope is over the next 4 years we see alternative national #realnews outlets overwhelm and collapse the liberal MSM under the weight of their own demonstrable lies.

Anyone watching the election returns for Reagan’s first term as president got to see the media’s true colors as both Rather and Cronkite openly wept on the air while proclaiming Reagan’s victory as “the end of America as we know it”. From that day forward I seek my news from alternative sources. Thank God for Free Republic, my source for news since the invasion of Grenada!

They probably will not collapse entirely.

I suspect they will continue to wither and diminish.

The period from 1960 to 2016 will become known, historically, as the “Time of the Mediacracy”.

I think the Invasion of Grenada (1983) was a bit before the Internet.

Personal computers were just starting to happen in 1983.

Maybe you are thinking of the Invasion of Panama, in 1989. There was a nascent Internet of sorts back then.

Trump should be his own press secretary.

A computer in every household would help (to bury the msm).

But the main source of infection is academia.

The media that harks back to the years of the phrase of the “bull podium” was used by Teddy Roosevelt. Similar to the way that TRUMP’s Tweets. Use the current technology, understand that another not the only the conduit from POTUS and reach past over your comfort zone.
