StonehengeGETTY Thousands of people have gathered at Stonehenge to celebrate the shortest day of the year Spectators gazed up at the sky to witness the beginning of the winter solstice, the point at which the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees away from the sun.

Some people offered prayers to gods, while others sounded trumpets, drums and other musical instruments.

Visitors were seen rejoicing and embracing each other and kissing the stones, as the sun rose over Stonehenge at 8.13am.

Kate Davies from English Heritage, which looks after the prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, said: "We were delighted to welcome approximately 5,000 people to Stonehenge to celebrate winter solstice this morning.

"It was a very enjoyable and peaceful celebration and the ancient stone circle was filled with the sound of drumming and chanting."

Although the entire day is typically considered to be the solstice, the precise moment it occurs is when the sun is directly over the line marking the latitude stretching across the southern hemisphere - the Tropic of Capricorn.

The revellers included pagan and druids dressed in traditional clothing This year it is believed to have happened at 10.44am, according to science website earthsky.org.

I posted this because I'm a little perplexed as to why these heathens would be using a shofar.

Anybody have any insight?

Hebrews were probably not the only ancient culture to realize a sound could be produced from a sheep or goat horn.

Please pray for these people to be freed from demonic spirits and to come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ orders.

I’m excited about the days getting longer but only because the only true God made the earth and sun this way.

I’ll bet all these people consider themselves Progressives so how come progressives always embrace primitive, outmoded and just plain wrong ideas like Communism and discount modern science? Simply put they’re the real Luddites.

You can be a Christian and still respect the religions that came before. The Celts and early Britons have a fascinating story. Many of our celebrations have roots in the old ways.

Yeah. Probably right. Amazing how people behave when the cameras are on them. This tattooed freak is clearly mugging for the camera with a gleeful “look at me” attitude.

Looks like a fun time.
I’m going next year to peddle my wares:
Enchanted switchgrass root.
Powdered elk horn and gogi berry tea.
Essence of Chewbacca
Mordor ring of enhanced charisma.

And the computer simulations I’m running show that the days will be getting shorter until there will be NO daylight on and after June 22, 2017. The science is settled on this, my computer simulations are right. Ignore all else.

“why these heathens would be using a shofar.” To show how far they are into silliness/paganism?
