And for some inexplicable reason it could cause a backlash against them.

Obama In Germany: Merkel Is On ‘Right Side Of History’ By Destroying Europe’s Borders

Breitbart News
24 Apr 20162

(AFP) US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a joint pitch Sunday for deeper transatlantic trade in the face of mounting opposition, vowing to complete a vast US-EU trade pact that could spur much-needed economic growth.

After talks in the northern town of Hanover where tens of thousands marched Saturday against the planned deal, Obama said the world’s largest trade pact could be finalised by the end of the year.

“Angela and I agree that the United States and the European Union need to keep moving forward with the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations,” Obama said.

“I don’t anticipate that we will be able to have completed ratification of a deal by the end of the year, but I do anticipate that we can have completed the agreement.”

Both sides hope the pact will provide a shot in the arm to Western economies that are still struggling to erode the devastating effects of the global financial crisis.

“As you see other markets like China beginning to develop and Asia beginning to develop and Africa growing fast, we have to make sure our businesses can compete.”

Per a number of German media outlets: 2 perps, one dead, one arrested. It was a huge truck, owned/driven by a Pole, who was not one of the guys in the vehicle. Authorities have not been able to contact the Polish owner/driver. The perps accessed the market through a side street that had not been blocked off, and plowed through some wooden barricades blocking off the location (sawhorses?).

Germans don’t elect the chancellor.
They vote for parliamentary representatives of several parties, who then elect the chancellor. Of course each parties chancellor candidate is announced before the election.

Problem is that ALL parties in the current German parliament are either pro-Merkel or even to the left of her.
Except some of the conservative Bavarian members of her party.

In the next election the right-wing AfD will take seats in parliament... hopefully a lot of seats. But they will remain in opposition, because no other party wants to have them in a coalition.

So it likely will again be Merkel or someone to the left of her, unless the AfD becomes surprisingly so strong as to carry a majority (perhaps with the Bavarian conservatives changing sides).

thanks for the German civics lesson/update. Certainly at some point the German people are going to tire of this muslim crap and just bypass their own government to fix the muslim problem. If a pending Trump Electoral victory is defeated, that may well happen in this country too.

I will. I don't know why the German Parliment (people) keep electing socialists, but I don't blame those murdered and injured. America has been heading down the same road at a slower pace. We learned and I think it's got something to do with Hellary's plan to bring in some 100,000 more muslim immigrants.

Trump has the right idea: If you can't thoroughly vett them, they don't come into the US.
