Trump picks budget 'hawk' Mick Mulvaney to lead budget office

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Mick Mulvaney, a conservative Republican congressman from South Carolina who is known as a budget “hawk”, as director of the Office of Management and Budget. Donald Trump accuses China of 'unpresidented' act over US navy drone Read more

In a statement issued on Saturday morning – shortly after Trump tweeted an inflammatory comment about China’s seizure of a US navy drone in the South China Sea – Trump called Mulvaney a “very high-energy leader with deep convictions for how to responsibly manage our nation’s finances and save our country from drowning in red ink”.

Trump also said that with Mulvaney as his budget director, his administration would make “smart choices” and “renew the American taxpayer’s trust in how their money is spent”.

Mulvaney said he would help restore “budgetary and fiscal sanity … after eight years of an out-of-control, tax-and-spend financial agenda” under Barack Obama.

Like other Trump nominations, the budget director’s job requires Senate approval.

Mulvaney’s nomination follows a pattern of Trump turning to individuals with records apparently hostile to the agencies they are nominated to lead.

“Other than learning how to spell “precedent”...all’s well.”

Go back and just read that tweet again but this time think of the context of how Obama reacted to the entire Chinese annexation of the SCS. I will submit it was perfectly intentional and 100% on target.

He seems well qualified for the job.

At least now, people are going to know that China stole our drone. What an embarrassment for Obama.

“Mulvaney’s nomination follows a pattern of Trump turning to individuals with records apparently hostile to the agencies they are nominated to lead.”

That is an excellent observation.

And it bodes well for a smaller cheaper, less intrusive fedgov.

It auto-completes as president for me on a SwiftKey keyboard on an LG V20 android phone. I think he should take credit for the pun.

He spelled it correctly for what he wanted to say regarding the lack of a real President leading our country. They only did it because the current _Resident is such a weak male.

"shortly after Trump tweeted an inflammatory comment about China’s seizure of a US navy drone"

So it was "inflammatory" to criticize China over a theft of American military hardware, but not "inflammatory" for Obama to threaten Russia with "retaliation" over the alleged hacking of John Podesta's emails?

The leftist press is becoming absolutely laughable in its hypocrisies and obsessions.

Bingo. The poofters at The Guardian have been sniffing each other's butts so long, it's affected their brains.

I tend to agree with you that it was intentional. Trump is a master at directing the dialogue of the Media exactly where he wants it pinpointed...in this case at Obama!
