Mail Truck Destroyed on I-94 (Wisconsin)

The U.S. Postal Service said all of the mail was destroyed in a Tuesday morning truck fire.

The Wisconsin DOT said State Patrol was notified of semi fire on I-94 in St. Croix County near Hudson Tuesday morning. When officers arrived, the fire had spread to the trailer.

The U.S. Postal Service confirmed the truck was carrying USPS mail and packages. The truck was taking them from the Twin Cities distribution center to Chicago. USPS said the load consisted mainly of Priority Mail packages originating in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. It may have also contained some First-Class mail.

USPS said customers who believe they may have had packages on the truck should track their items on the USPS website. Customers can then file a claim for their loss - but not until 15 days after the date of mailing.

Anyone with questions should contact the Northland District Consumers Affairs office at (612) 349-4401

Yes, we know you had a package on the truck because our tracking shows that you had a package on the truck. But in addition to destroying your package, we want to add the extra inconvenience of not even starting to make restitution for another two weeks. Happy Holidays!

The public system, as I have used it, doesn’t seem to have a way of linking a shipment to “that truck.”

Again this is government work for ya. They could run a special report for the purpose and mark them as expedited claimable, but (1) this would cost them in the short run; and (2) not my yob, mon.

Betcha that any private shipper will beat this all hollow. You want a gummit subsidized system, you get gummit quality service out of it.
