Grassley: We're not delaying Sessions hearing
The Hill ^ | December 13, 2016 | Jordai Carney

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said on Tuesday evening that he will not delay Sen. Jeff Sessions's attorney general confirmation hearing amid a Democrat push for more information.

"Any suggestion that a nominee’s good faith efforts to locate and produce responsive material is cause for delay begins to look like a call for delay for delay’s sake, rather than a thorough review of a colleague’s character and qualifications," Grassley said.

The Judiciary Committee chairman added that "I look forward to hearing from Senator Sessions on Jan. 10."

His pushback comes after Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) sent a letter to Grassley on Friday night after he publicly announced that the hearings for Sessions would take place on Jan. 10 and 11.

"In order to have a full and fair process, we must have all the documents responsive to the Committee questionnaire. I intend to engage in that process fully... and urge that we are able to have the time needed to perform our due diligence," Feinstein wrote at the time.

Feinstein, in her original letter, also noted that there were likely third-party documents that would also be relevant to the hearings and still needed to be turned over.

But Grassley hit back on Tuesday noting that former Attorney General Eric Holder's hearings remained on schedule even though he "supplemented his questionnaire multiple times with, literally, hundreds of additions and clarifications, including one update more than a year after he was confirmed."

"The materials provided to the committee by Senator Sessions are in large part public documents that anyone can find on his official Senate website," he added. "It’s information that’s been publicly available, in some instances, for twenty years. In fact, only a small percentage of the material was not already publicly available."

Democrats have warned that Sessions will not be given a free pass even though he's a well-respects on both sides of the aisle. Sen. Elizabeth Warren D-Mass.) called on Trump to drop the Alabama lawmaker.

Democrats on the committee, including Feinstein, also pushed Grassley late last month to allow for at least four days of hearings on Sessions.

But Democrats face an uphill battle if they want to block their Alabama colleague.

Under the 2013 decision to go "nuclear" Sessions will need a simple majority to clear the upper chamber. Republicans are expected to have a 52-seat majority next year, and the caucus has coalesced around Sessions.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) also said he will support him.

These jerks would object if Trump nominated Christ himself. “He doesn’t represent American values” ad nauseum. Peligrossly will be an irritant but she is a toothless old hag.

So they are admitting they spend so little time in Washington that they don’t know everything you can know about a colleague after 20 years?

The guy is good enough to serve with them in the Senate of the United States, but they have qualms about him serving in a presidential cabinet position?

Too bad!

He’s in!

Exactly, DiFi and other Dems on the Judiciary know Sen. Sessions very well and it ticks them off that he’s a man of integrity.

AG Jeff Sessions will have BY FAR the biggest impact on the U.S. of any cabinet appointment. From Holder’s evil “consent decrees” browbeating hundreds of cities and towns to drop enforcement of illegal aliens, to Black Lives Matter, to Voter ID laws, to welfare fraud, Sessions will be a pure conservative hammer on the left across America.

It would be grand to see the first action he takes is the arrest and Perp. Walk of Rahm Emanuel and the Mayor of San Francisco for conspiracy to violate Federal Immigration laws!

And the second is the charging of Obama and Eric Holder in the illegal trafficking of Firearms to known Mexican Drug Cartel members that cost the lives of two Federal agents and multiple Mexican Nationals and the cover up afterwards.
