Always been one of my favorites from the south: “Well, bless your heart.”
For those who may not know, it means go F yourself.
“Bless your heart” has more than one meaning. It also is a phrase of identification with or sorrow for a person. My late grandmother often used it. She never used profanity, let alone told anyone to have sex with themselves.
Depends on tone and context
It can also be used endearingly rather than saracastically
Interchangeable pretty much with
“God love em”
But if you insult a Deep South southern woman and she replies “we’ll bless yer heart dear” then yep it’s about like what you said
That How Southern Girls talk YouTube is pretty accurate but it’s Carolinacentric which is diff from Alassippi or Texas
Depends on the context. Many people don’t understand that. I have never used it in a bad way.......and never knew that existed, quite frankly, as a Southerner. In this modern-day usage:
“Bless your heart.” = A truly heart-felt sympathy for a person’s misfortune .(the TRUE meaning)
“Bless your heart.” = “Dear lawd, you are sooooo stupid.”
“Bless your heart.” = “Eff you.”
And growing up........I never knew or used it except in the first example. Don’t know how it changed, quite frankly.
Sometimes. Sometimes not. Depends on context and tone of voice. It can mean "oh you poor thing" in a sincere manner. It can mean the same in a condescending manner, too. Nothing's more biting than getting your heart blessed by a master, usually an older southern woman, when you've messed up, lol.
No it doesn’t. It means I will beat you up and then bring you a casserole to eat while you recover. That is what I have been told and read.
Or Kiss My Grits?
