Finger-pointing continues over NYC homelessness crisis

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - It has been a year of finger pointing when it comes to New York City's homeless crisis. Critics have blamed Mayor Bill de Blasio for not doing enough. The mayor and the Department of Homeless Services have blamed the past.

But now it looks like the mayor is taking at least some of the blame. He appeared on the Brian Lehrer Show saying that he has to own everything: things that worked, things that didn't.

In recent months critics have attacked his administration for not having what they say is a clear-cut plan. Protestors marched at hotels-turned-shelters. De Blasio promised to lay out a solution soon. He stopped short of taking full responsibility, citing part of the problem on the city's previous regime.

Only a month to go and they can all start blaming President Trump. Which they will.

De Blasio isn’t Communist enough. New York needs higher taxes on people who work, and more freebies for people who don’t. And more pork.

Yes. Right now it’s President Bush’s fault, but he will be off the hook in about a month.

Exactly, has to be Trump’s fault. If only those idiotic deplorables had stayed home Hillary would of fixed it by now. /S

Trump out of the gate needs to address this and let people know this has been on bams watch. Santa Ana Cali the city hall area has over 400 homeless camping on its site.

They have spent 100mil dollars int he past 10 years to combat homelessness. Where did that money go? Salaries for new jobs in the city that say they are there to help homeless......at 150k a year, some make more.

the ones coming to feed homeless at area...get gov money to do so, so all they have to do is show up every so often with some food and they get major money.

Homeless has become a major revenue source for......not the homeless. One more thing....100mil and homeless is way worse in LA than it ever has been. Same for other areas around the country. Follow the money.

If they need a reason, I would just fall back on Rascism, Global Warming and Trump.

It seems to work most of the time in places like NY, LA, SF, etc...

What homelessness crisis? All I've been hearing lately is how great the economy was under Pres--ent Obola.

4.6% unemployment and all that.

Who's been running that city!?

Most of the “homeless” have mental problems. It’s time to reopen the mental hospitals.

About ten years ago, Michael Savage brought to his listeners’ attention that the City of San Francisco made it illegal to feed feral tropical birds that could be found around the Embarcadero and waterfront areas. Their reasoning was that free food would attract more birds and just increase the problem. Unfortunately they were mentally incapable of transferring this valuable lesson from birds to humans.

One of the main problems is that NYC holds that if anyone is homeless, they don’t have to be a resident of NYC. They can come to NYC to milk the libtards in charge of free this, that, and the other thing. The result is, thousands of do-nothings flock to NYC and claim homelessness and we then owe them housing. I’d like to see some sort of requirement that people applying for shelter actually be NYC residents for at least a year and that any other benefits they are receiving be reviewed.

Yes! I lived in NYC during Dinkins - still live here - and DiBlasio is the WORSE mayor since Dinkins. Increase in subway crime, also uptick on crime in Central Park, homeless, people in the street yelling and cursing, garbage all over, etc. Yes, you are right - this is going the way of Dinkins and that is NOT good. On a happier note, I just saw the President Elect and his motorcade on 56th and Park. Very exciting!

feral tropical birds
And like the feral tropical birds, the homeless can take a dump or pi$$ anywhere they want.
Savage says you can smell the city long before you get there.
