Supporters Worry Trump Will Scuttle Plan to Put Harriet Tubman On $20 Bill

Supporters of the decision by the Obama White House to put the black abolitionist Harriet Tubman on the front of the $20 bill are worried that it could be reversed.

“We certainly are worried, when [Donald] Trump won the election, that he might try to make good on his suggestion that Harriet Tubman be put on the $2 bill instead of the $20 bill,” said Susan Ades Stone, executive director of the nonprofit organization Women on 20s. “It would be a slap in the face of women to reverse the decision in our opinion.”

Lisa Maatz, vice president for government relations at the American Association of University Women, also expressed concern. She said that Trump should consider he has a “credibility gap” with women before deciding to reverse the decision.

During the presidential campaign, Trump said he thought it was “very rough” to take Andrew Jackson off the $20 note.

“I think it’s pure political correctness,” Trump said during an April appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, suggesting that Tubman, who he allowed “is fantastic,” be placed on another denomination. “Maybe we do the $2 bill or we do another bill,” Trump suggested. (Thomas Jefferson appears on the $2 bill, which remains in circulation and production.)

Probably doesn't qualify for the "First 100 day list" but President Andrew Jackson is a Democrat still worth honoring. IMHO

Nobody gives a damn about your opinion, lady.

I would hope so.

It was just a purely political move anyway.

Let’s compromise and put Clarence Thomas on there. Watch some libtard heads erupting.

What is wrong with just bringing back the 500 and putting her on it, when we could once again use such a denomination? Adding a new bill, well re-adding a once extant one would be far less divisive. But then again, its more about evil “white male” privilege than anything practical.

Personally I’m not averse to Harriet Tubman on a bill, but not at the expense of Andrew Jackson.

Use the picture of the black female Republican hero where she’s holding her gun. Then we could say there was still one thing on the bill of which Old Hickory would approve... the gun. When predictable lefties ask what’s there of which he wouldn’t approve we can leave unstated what they’re implying and point to the “Federal Reserve Note” written thereon. There’s no doubt the man who aggressively shut down the National Bank would be appalled by the context of his most common image today.

If they take him off the $20, that’ll be the end of the ATM. There’ll be lines at the tellers for Washington ... Nothing against Lincoln ...

Exactly. I agree with you.

After Trump pushes the button and blows up the world, what difference would it make?

Jackson will still be on the new $20 bill, on the obverse side. I have no problem with Tubman on the face of the new $20 - she was a brave woman who helped free people from bondage - but I wish they would use the image of her armed with a pistol which some have proposed - she went on dangerous rescue missions, and she went armed.

I think Trump should just leave this trivial crap alone and concentrate on the big stuff. Plus, he could use it to his advantage.

“Yes, I will be pushing for anyone using welfare has to put in hours of job training or community service like they do in Maine. And before anyone calls me racist - let me remind you about the twenty-dollar bill!”

Good, Keep Old Hickory where he is. Let Franklin Mint put her on a commemorative watch.

Putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill is an utterly mornonic idea worthy only of a tool such a obama.

That’s a pretty bad ass looking $20 bill design. I like it.

Maybe we can do a run of special edition $20’s, like they do with all these state quarters. I don’t think Jackson needs to be retired.
