The insurance industry says red light cameras save a lot of lives, and they have the studies to prove it. However, Lovely Warren, the mayor of Rochester, New York, says that even though red light cameras save lives, she wants to get rid of them because they disproportionately affect the poor.

I’m for any reason to get rid of red light cameras. These things are an abomination.

Why are those cameras always going after the poor?

In Philadelphia, they only put the red light cameras in the “Greater Northeast”, where they snag commuters and middle class.

A case of doing the right thing for shockingly stupid reasons.

Poor people tend to have far less self control than other people, which is one of the reasons they are poor.

They got rid of them in NC because the way the law is written the money from this transgression goes into the state education fund. The camera companies lost their 40% fee split and pulled out of the state.

Red light cameras catch those who zoom through a light just after it turns red. Its a good system that needs to be everywhere.

Lovely Warren is a "I Hate Whitey" supporter...and rivals Michelle.
Nothing lovely about her.

Except Rochester were shorting the change time on some lights and got caught.

If you’re employed by the city and a union member, you don’t have to pay the fine. See the article I just posted.

I hate these cameras with a passion. I have never gotten a ticket from one but there are several in my area:
- some people lock up the brakes 5 feet behind the line the instant the light turns yellow, add in accordion effect and it's a nightmare.
- at night when someone else runs it the flash blinds me for a solid second or two
- the fees are processed (for profit) by a private company that lobbies for more lights
- they add to the surveillance society
- they are un-American
