This place sounds like a gathering center for Illegal artists, etc. How can forty people be missing and only nine dead bodies be found? Something is fishy.

According to an article: 4000 square feet. But, I don't know if that's both the first and second floor, or just the first floor.

The reason for the delay: the roof collapsed onto the second floor, which then collapsed onto the first floor. So, it's going to take a while to remove all the debris and search it.

They’ll somehow get around to it and blame Trump.

But where has the city ( and the Fire Department for sure) been?

A city inspector responded to a complaint (reportedly about people living there) filed last month, but was unable to gain access to the interior of the building.

I own a commercial building in the SF Bay Area and I can tell you that I routinely get inspections from the Fire Department in the city where the property is located, and so do each of my tenants individually.

The lawyer Mark Geragos complained about this on his podcast this week. He thinks they only inspect buildings and businesses that look like they can afford to pay fines. That it's really about money and nothing else.

Wait, you mean buckets of oil paints and turpentine soaked rags are a fire hazard?

That’s a cop out! When was the last time some building official or fire inspector couldn’t gain access to a property in a timely manner? They were just lazy about doing their jobs. Our little town has what they call a “code enforcement official!” Someone who’s sole job it to handle recalcitrant citizens who won’t follow the various laws and ordinances. Ours is a woman who flits around town like a fly looking for a cow patty.

If you look at pix of that building, it appears to me that it is right about 40’ x 100’ using cars to estimate measurement of linear wall feet.

As the bldg was a warehouse, it would not surprise me to find that the “second floor” was strictly a storage loft. That’s why there was no “real” staircase to the 2nd floor, only a pile of pallets. Hence, the 2nd floor sq footage was not permitted for anything but storage and thus not reflected in public records wrt sq footage.

Photobucket took a crap again so I can’t post a pix.

Aerial view here: http://www.breakingnews.com/topic/fruitvale-oakland-ca-us/

These must be utterly horrific things to be caught in.

I read about that, too. And, I'm not sure if it's speculation, but the missing people were reportedly on the second "floor".

Strange. Just a couple of nights ago, on some channel, I watched an old CSI Las Vegas episode in which this very thing happened.

“The lawyer Mark Geragos complained about this on his podcast this week. He thinks they only inspect buildings and businesses that look like they can afford to pay fines. That it’s really about money and nothing else.”

Short story: We have an elevator in our building that is inspected by the State every year. For years, they came every 12 months and we were charged $110 for the inspection. Now they come every 18 months and the fee is now $220. But that’s only part of the story. Recently they have “found things needing correction” that were bogus. We have a service company coming in every 90 days to “inspect and maintain” the unit. So this past inspection they said that the “hoistway” needed to be “cleaned” and some piece of the electronics needed “service,” neither of which were true. So we told our service company to take care of whatever was needed. They waited longer than the prescribed grace period, and we were hit with a “fine” of $674. (which the service company had to pay). I personally vacuumed the hoistway and the top of the car and got nothing, so I know this is simply legalized extortion under color of authority.
This is simply one small example of the depravity of our government and it’s cadre of “employees” who are taking money under false pretenses.

The art gallery where I visit (Brush and Palette) in Grove OK, has been closed due to the neighbor having a firetrap junk store.
Our side was kept nice and clean but the other part of the building has been condemned so we have had to find a new UP TO CODE storefront for a gallery. We did.

If you look at the pictures of the building, I think you would come to conclusion that the area inside the walls is probably 4,000 sf. So with a second floor and a mezzanine, it’s probably closer to 10,000 sf of interior floor space.

I went to a nice restaurant in a large city near here. Inside it was like a maze and a cave. Nice though. My first thoughts was ..”What if a fire breaks out!”

Haven’t been back in years!

So let me get this straight: There is tax money to spend on unnecessary social programs, condoms, etc. Yet no money to spend to enforce all the regulations that the liberals passes like candy.

Also looks like the inspectors are weak to force themselves in to check the premises. Hell someone should have told them there are Tump supporters and people who cling to their Bible and Guns, I bet you they would be kicking the door down.

Being born in Oakland myself and now live in the East Bay,I do feel bad that these were young people who still had a life ahead of them. Yet watching videos, and reading the missing victims facebook page . For me they are lost soul. I can only pray that during their final acknowledgement that they were going to die. I pray they cried out to God for mercy. That place was so negative and filled with false Idols and demonic looking art.

No doubt the City turned a blind eye so they can continue collecting property taxes. For liberals eventhough they speak about Social Justice crap they are just as much greedy for money like the very people they scream about.

All we can folks, it just pray for the families because Christmas will be so painful for them.
