“Right now, we are a nation divided as it is.”

Because of people like you, lady.

Now if they want to be exposed to the N word, they’ll have to listen to rap music.

Virginia school district bans classic novels over racial slurs

Maybe they can get the Accomack County Firemen to gather up the books and safely burn them.

My wife was cleaning out some old trash this past spring and among the items to pitch was a First Edition “Tom Sawyer”.
I don’t care if it is racist, we are holding on to it.

Shouldn’t they ban rap then?

Or would that be racist.

Make them all read MOBY DICK, even if it takes them three years. It’ll do ‘em good.

I’m going to go ahead and commit the sacrilege of admitting that I never particularly liked either of those novels. Even 30 years ago, I was sick of being nagged about racism.

Well, there goes my H P Lovecraft THE RATS IN THE WALLS, Joseph Conrad’s the NI*GER OF THE NARCISSUS, the south sea stories in the book THE LOST GOD by John Russell, and God help us if we mention the dog’s name in the book or movie THE DAM BUSTERS!

Somehow I feel we are reliving the movie THIS LAND IS MINE (1943) with Charles Laughton, in which the local teachers are given orders by their Nazi conquerors to tear out and burn certain pages of their books. Can the firing squads be far behind?

Superficial thought wins once more.

Twain’s novel was intended to condemn racism by example and illustration. And it’s not like people have quit using the N-word today even. It’s still fine, as long as you’re black, or if you are a whitey writing rap for black fartists.

Yeah, but trash sex ed textbooks will graphically portray safe faggot sex, how a girl puts a rubber on some guy she just met.

I can easily see how "nigger" in a classic American novel is a paramount concern, especially since blacks use the word to describe themselves so much.

True story. A black punk in Louisville, KY, referred to his white teacher as "niggah." The teacher referred to the student as "niggah." The punk filed a complaint and all the Louisville affirmative action, community action, leeches came of the woodwork to march for a cause.

This crap is ridiculous. It needs to end. It's time for the ultra sensitive black community to get over it already.

That’s the funny part. Both books are anti-racism. I wonder if the complainers have ever read them.

Just what is it that stops her from “getting past it” that doesn’t stop an estimated 300 million others from “getting past it?”
