.. his party’s decision in 2013 to blow up the filibuster for most presidential nominees.

What goes around comes around. We should use every crappy little thing the democrat jerks put in place... and love every second of it.

We do not own liberal cheaters and liars the time of day - or their butt kissers in the press.

Yes, Trump will work for ALL the American people but that does NOT include liberal 'elites' who tried to screw over the country with their dirty tricks and lies.

Which brings us to the $64k question.

Do we now finish blowing up the filibuster to get the supreme court justice we want or do we learn from the dems regrets?

There is a kernel of corn of truth in your words.
However, one piece of shit by itself does not
amount to much. Do you reid what I am saying?

Which brings us to the $64k question.

Do we Does the Senate Republican majority now finish blowing up the filibuster to get the supreme court justice we want or do we learn from the dems regrets?

The Senate traditionally has been the stabilizing influence which conservatives could hope would prevent some of the noise of current events from causing overreach. But that depends on mutual respect. The Democrats can hardly expect the Republicans to betray their own voters by making filibusters a one-way street applicable against Republican majorities only.

If the Republicans decide to restore the filibuster they should do it by constitutional amendment . . . which would easily take long enough for the Democrats to have time to rue the want of it.

IMHO the Constitution should also be amended to regularize SCOTUS. I would see the number of justices increased to eleven, and each president naming two justices who would be named by the presidential candidate at least two months before the election. That would obviate the role of Senate politics, making the presidential candidates responsible to the electorate for the quality and temperament of his picks. The upshot of that would be a 22 year term for SCOTUS justices.

But I digress. The reality of the SCOTUS nomination situation is that when Trump nominates the replacement for Scalia Democrats are going to find one of their fangs missing. How do you claim that the nominee is “out of the mainstream” when Trump got elected on the basis that he would nominate a conservative SCOTUS justice? Trump made a list, and promised that he would pick from it. He even added to that list, which scared me because each additional name constituted an additional potential target in the presidential election. As long as Trump sticks to his final list, any “out of the mainstream” claim will go over like a lead balloon. Trump’s list is the mainstream.

The other reform to the Senate which should be considered is, of course, remedying the upset to the Constitution inflicted by the 17th Amendment. It is unlikely, IMHO, that we can repeal it outright. What should be done, I suggest, is that a state’s senator candidates should become running mates of the governor candidates. This would require that the terms of senators be adjusted.

Could it be? I suppose so. I hadn’t realized it before, but he has a look of the deceased Lautenberg (D-NJ).
