Webb said that he won't be voting for Hillary in the general election and that he might vote for Trump. Perhaps he didn't vote at all or wrote himself in, who knows.
Jim Webb's problem was that he tried to run as something that doesn't really exist anymore: a Harry Truman or JFK-type old school "liberal," as opposed to a radical. Whatever policy disagreements we may have, Truman/JFK Democrats were generally patriotic and anti-Communist, in contrast to the party's radical wing that has more or less been taking over since the late 60's. Consequently, Truman/JFK-type Democrats of yesterday are more like moderate Republicans of today.
One reason Webb failed was that the Democrats rigged the primaries for Hillary from the beginning. In spite of this rigging, however, Bernie Sanders managed to win a reasonable number of states, because his radicalism carried him through. The fact that Webb wasn't even a blip in the polls had as much to do with the fact that his type of Democrat is a thing of the distant past as it was due to the anointment of Hillary by the DNC.
From the late 60's on, radicals have been blaming white males (at least those from the working and middle classes, as opposed to the elites which are exempt from criticism) for every alleged evil in society. When these people took over the Democrats, the party's loud and clear message is "we don't need or want your vote. We're the party of non-whites and honorary non-whites such as radical feminists and homosexuals."
Then they wonder why they keep losing elections, and why their only path to victory is thorugh looking forward to the day when the non-white electorate (as opposed to the raw population) surpasses the white electorate.
