Ben Carson hints he will accept Cabinet position in Trump administration (HUD)

Ben Carson on Wednesday hinted that he would accept a position within President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet.

Trump has said he is considering Carson to helm the Department of Housing and Urban Development, citing his former presidential rival's experience growing up in the "inner city."

"After serious discussions with the Trump transition team, I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly to making our inner cities great for everyone," Carson said on Facebook.

"We have much work to do in strengthening every aspect of our nation and ensuring that both our physical infrastructure and our spiritual infrastructure is solid," Carson wrote, adding that an announcement is "forthcoming."

Carson acknowledged on Tuesday that the position was one of the offers on the table but said he would be thinking and praying about it over the Thanksgiving holiday.

But the announcement could come sooner than anticipated.

Trump aide Jason Miller told reporters the transition team would make another announcement on Wednesday but did not offer details.

Carson grew out of poverty in Detroit to become one of the world’s most accomplished pediatric neurosurgeons. He endorsed Trump after dropping out of the GOP primary and became a close ally and surrogate of the businessman.

But Carson had said through a spokesman that he wouldn't want to run a federal agency, citing his lack of government experience.

"The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency,” said Armstrong Williams, Carson's close friend and business adviser.

Does CARSON have the gift of administration? Not by judging the style of his campaign. This cabinet position requires a BULLDOG or a PITBULL, not a SHEEPDOG.

Carson was a non-starter for me as President because of his 2A comments, but he would be great for HUD..

I see that as a plus. Someone outside of the government mindset is more likely to ask questions and critically examine things that government folks view as "off limits" on a subconscious level.

There are many factors to take into consideration including family and i would imagine personal soul searching.

Maybe he’ll burn the cities down and crush the urbanite in a pol-pot esque fashion

“Does CARSON have the gift of administration?”

His campaign was a mess of infighting due to unclear leadership. His lack of clarity in the past week only reinforces this.

I think he will bring ethics to the table, and a strong recommendation for people to consider moving out of massive urbanized areas to smaller towns. He might also start some program to teach people how to spot loser properties or loser neighborhoods.

Ehhhhhhh......it "There", not "Their" and it's "hemming and hawing" not "hymning and hawing"?

HUD is a sea of land mines. Carson needs to just say “no”.

as i age i am starting to acknowledge that there are few decisions in life that can’t wait 24 hrs.

Ben’s life will change dramatically and it will affect everyone he loves. I am sure that he may be slow in responding, but once he pulls the trigger he will be totally dedicated to his free choice decision.

And...he just seems a little s...l...o...w,

I saw SNL’s skit with him, it made me laugh because i think they really nailed the way he comes across to me. totally chilled.

tell me where I am wrong here

Dr. Carson, as their friendship evolved, became a very loyal supporter of President Elect Trump. With Dr. Carson, he gets a HUD nominee who can't reasonably be objected to, and probably won't make ripples.

I would have him carve out huge chunks of ghetto that are totally tax-free zones.

Turn American ghettos into Hong Kongs with one business per square foot.

Call it a "program" to make people happy.

Agreed. I thought I had read last week he wasn't going to be in the Trump administration because he thought he could be most effective outside of it.

[I think he will bring ethics to the table, and a strong recommendation for people to consider moving out of massive urbanized areas to smaller towns.]

Our area is being populated urbanized areas and the crime rate has SKYROCKETED. That in itself is not the remedy. We are dealing with the breakdown of the family.
