Hillary Clinton being pushed to challenge election results in 3 states
Hotair ^ | 11/23/2016 | John Sexton

New York magazine is reporting that a group of lawyers and computer scientists is urging Hillary Clinton to challenge the election results in 3 swing states: Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The group, which includes voting-rights attorney John Bonifaz and J. Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society, believes they’ve found persuasive evidence that results in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania may have been manipulated or hacked…

Last Thursday, the activists held a conference call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias to make their case, according to a source briefed on the call. The academics presented findings showing that in Wisconsin, Clinton received 7 percent fewer votes in counties that relied on electronic-voting machines compared with counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots.

According to the story, the academics don’t have any evidence of hacking by any foreign government at this point, just this statistical oddity involving electronic-voting machines. Of course there could be other things that account for the difference in voting patters but since we’re not privy to any of the methodology used to generate these results it’s impossible to judge the quality of the work.

Prior to the election the FBI revealed that foreign hackers had made their way into election systems in at least two states. A Yahoo News story from August reported, “six states and parts of four others (including large swaths of Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state in this year’s race) are more vulnerable because they rely on paperless touchscreen voting, known as DREs or Direct-Recording Electronic voting machines, for which there are no paper ballot backups.”

According to Ballotpedia, Wisconsin uses a mix of paper ballots and Direct-Recording Electronic machines with a paper back-up. That means the electronic results could be tested against the paper back-up. Michigan uses paper ballots so it’s not clear there is a DRE issue in that state. Clinton would need to win all three states in order to overturn the election, though the New York piece points out that this is somewhat complicated by Democratic efforts to round up faithless electors.

The attempt to overturn the results is running out of time. New York reports, “the deadline in Wisconsin to file for a recount is Friday; in Pennsylvania, it’s Monday; and Michigan is next Wednesday.”

This story just went up a short while ago but already it is getting some pushback:

To follow: some *very* quick analysis which suggests the claim here of rigged results in Wisconsin is probably BS: https://t.co/SYlE76bnmQ

Run a regression on Wisc. counties with >=50K people, and you find that Clinton improved more in counties with only paper ballots. HOWEVER: pic.twitter.com/4swuU70NaY

…the effect COMPLETELY DISAPPEARS once you control for race and education levels, the key factors in predicting vote shifts this year. pic.twitter.com/NYOINx9lEz

Maybe a more complicated analysis would reveal something, but usually bad news when a finding can't survive a basic sanity check like this.

Or like Nate Silver said, it can be accounted for by differences in the racisl makeup and educational levels of the voters. No evidence of any kind of fraud here either way; the results were consistent with expectation.

Maybe Clinton could explain how she won almost 3/4 of her 2,000,000 USA popular vote margin
in one county in California, Los Angeles County. The other counties/voting districts across
the USA combined gave her somewhere around a 500,000 total vote margin.

votes % CLINTON 2,110,538 71.54 TRUMP 681,971 23.12 JOHNSON 76,520 2.59 STEIN 63,337 2.15 RIVA 17,863 0.61

Silver gets a bad rap mainly because his predictions are based on data and don’t hew to the party line of either side. When polling data is not accurate, neither will Silver’s predictions be. Contrary to what some on here think, he uses a consistent model for his forecasts and does not change that model to get any particular result. The output of that model is what he reports as his forecast.

In this election he gets an even more undeserved bad rap for supposedly not getting it right. In reality, his model is probabalistic. He did not say Clinton would win; he said she had about a 70% chance of winning. If you were forced to bet on the outcome based on an analysis of poll data, he said you should have bet on Clinton. Based on available poll data that was indeed true. You’d have lost your bet, but it was still the right bet. Given the available information, Trump was an underdog. If you read his forecasts and articles more deeply, he did pretty consistently state that he thought NV and CO likely would go blue and that Trump’s best chance was to win states like PA, MI and WI, as these were the states where he had the best chance of outperforming the polls.

She was asked by a reporter after the debate. She laughed it off, as did the rest of the media present.

Not so long ago, Hillary and the Democrats condemned the very idea of challenging the election results.

Maybe, when trump said he would not seek prosecution, what he really meant was, “I will not seek prosecution, UNLESS...”

Won’t happen. Self preservation dictates that she keep a low profile.

Aides told her not to throw out that last 55 gallon drum of face spackle.

True to the playbook. Wait until they know how many votes are needed, selectively pick 3 Democratic leaning states, cry foul, and then start recounting. 2 of 3 states (not MI) have Dims incharge of the elections and MI is so close it needs a coin toss. Ignore any close states that lean the other way or are dominated by Republicans.

Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania...all states with a lot of hunters who were afraid Hillary was going to take away their guns, so they went to vote on election day rather than going hunting.

Gore concede as well, however.

I agree this will go nowhere, but HRC enjoys the usual suspects brawling on her behalf as she sits back and enjoys a modicum of sweet revenge.

What the heck. Kellyanne and the troops find it inconvenient to pursue charges against anything connected to Hillary and her nefarious care of classified material or the Clintoon Foundation. Now TRUMP? Surely not.

Not going anywhere.

If you can’t convince the god of liberal statistics Nate Silver, its DOA.

Which is exactly where this last minute push to contest the election appears to be headed.

Must have been a lot of dead people voting in those states if the libs are so set on getting a recount. They had best let sleeping dogs lie as opening Pandora’s boxmight have some serious consequences.
