Ex-US general: We pay a price for backing Israel (James Mattis)
The Times of Israel ^ | July 25, 2013 | Lazar Berman

Posted on 11/20/2016 4:57:39 PM PST by ari-freedom

Retired US Marine Corps General James Mattis recently said that America pays a price for its perceived bias in support of Israel.

“I paid a military security price every day as the commander of CentCom because the Americans were seen as biased in support of Israel, and that moderates all the moderate Arabs who want to be with us, because they can’t come out publicly in support of people who don’t show respect for the Arab Palestinians,” he said Saturday at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado in response to a question about the peace process

Mattis took over Central Command, whose area of responsibility includes the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, from David Petraeus in 2010.

He called the current situation in Israel “unsustainable” and blamed the settlements for harming prospects for peace. The chances for an accord between Israel and the Palestinians, said Mattis, “are starting to ebb because the settlements and where they’re at are going to make it impossible to maintain the two state solution.”

It didn’t dawn on him that the Arabs were the problem?

Ouch!

Children don’t want to do their homework either. They complain.

I guess he would think the parents were wrong if kids complained.

Not a real issue. As Secretary of Defense Gen’l Mattis will not be setting American policy. His opinion on west bank settlements is irrelevant to the job he will be entrusted with.

Said in 2013, so maybe he believed this, or maybe he was just kissing the butt of the anti-Israel occupant of the Oval Office. It doesn’t make me eager to see this dude nominated to be Sec. of Defense.

Eat it Mattis!

Eat it while President Trump doubles or triples our aid to Israel and the Israeli people will now live in Peace and prosperity. Trump will protect Israel!

This is a red flag, IMHO. It points to a possible lack of understanding of the true nature & threat of Islam.

Well, you read the posts of the multitude that think that he is the best thing since the last best thing.

While we all have our warts, his bias against Israel is a no no as far as I am concerned. But the only opinion that matters is Donald’s.

He has a cult for tough talk, but he isn’t what people wish he was. he has that big “pleading with you with tears in my eyes...or ill kill you all quote”.

When his Marines were attacked and responded violently, he prosecuted and persecuted them to make Murtha happy. He is for Israel leaving the west bank and creating a nation state called Palestine that can threaten all of Israel with little more than large mortars and homemade rockets. He loves Kerry too.

He’s 180 degrees wrong.

Cicero said: “by defending our allies, our people have gained the whole world.”

especially for Muslims, abandoning our natural allies only encourages their violence.

Being a good warfighting general is an apolitical task, but setting policy as a civilian department head is altogether different. Jim Mattis was a fine combat leader, and we should leave it at that.
