Jimmie Johnson has a new nickname: Seven-Time.
The 41-year-old driver captured his seventh Sprint Cup championship -- and his first in three years -- by winning the Ford EcoBoost 400 on Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Johnson joins Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as a seven-time premier series champion, the most by any driver. It is Johnson's first title since 2013, and his first with this current Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup format that began in 2014.

Thanks for the synopsis.
Missed the race and congratulations JJ the 48
My former neighbor worked directly for Jimmie Johnson.
Hubby and I weren’t much into racing even though so many our neighbors either were or worked for Nascar drivers.
I watched Earnhardt buy it. Unbelievable. It was so small, yet so lethal.
What was he like?
I thought he used to coach the Cowboys in the 90’s? Just kidding.
I’m OK with the JJ win. Kyle is as good as they come, but I just haven’t warmed up to him or his brother. Good to see you still kicking around.
Vroom!
I haven’t seen Jimmy nail consecutive restarts like he did tonight in a long time. Usually smokes the tires at least once. Not bad for starting dead last.
Yeah, Kyle is the restart king.
I think you sent me that 48 GR???
Logano’s pretty good, too. And despite all of his success, Gordon was worse on restarts than Johnson.
Miss you both (GR) but all good things.....will and do miss you both.
Yeah, congrats to JJ. Saw the last 30 laps. Post race Johnson extremely humble & Chas looked like he was in shock. He’ll be a darned good champion.
Best to all.
I have no idea... considering my past loyalties, it would likely be more Home Depot than Lowes, but then again, I always take my close friends’ delicate sensitivities to heart.
BTW, I see you’re still driving a Mac. Um, yah.
We’ve gone full Apple here too. I let you get your foot in the door... well... now I have direct deposit (and Direct TV on my 6S+). I know, I know, you were just trying to boost the economy.
Tell your lovely first wife hello for me. Take good care my friend.
You sent me a Home Depot car! It’s in the den.
Are those coffee stains on the keyboard?
She loved working of him. She was very private about her job and didn’t say much. We have seen her at the finish line greeting him when he won.
