The Donald Trump transition team is eyeing former Washington, D.C. public school chancellor Michelle Rhee for Secretary of Education, multiple sources close to the transition tell the Daily Mail.
The appointment of Rhee who has been dubbed 'Public Enemy No. 1' of the teachers' unions -- would be a bold move by the Trump team, and a signal that his administration is gearing up to take an aggressive stance on education reform.
It would also cut across partisan lines. Rhee is a lifelong Democrat, and a proponent of Common Core, a set of federal education standards that is opposed by many conservatives and Donald Trump.

Yes
LOL! That’s what he said.
The DOE needs to be abolished. I doubt any serious person can claim that American students are better educated now than they were when Carter created the Department of Education.
This is Reaganesque, putting into office precisely the person to reverse the course of the particular bureaucracy at issue. I like it!
Dump the Department of Education! They educate no one and consume huge amounts of money for no other purpose than to indoctrinate children into socialism and secure votes for democrats.
The article continues:
“Trump has vowed to abolish Common Core in his first 100 days as president and replace it with the School Choice and Education Opportunity Act.
“The proposal would increase federal funding for school vouchers and charter schools and end federal education standards. It would also seek to increase college affordability.
“As a supporter of Common Core, Rhee would be an unexpected choice to lead such a change. But her history of backing school choice and battling the teachers’ unions has also earned her support from many conservatives.”
Me too - ironic we had a Freeper who appears to be a teacher telling us (in an earlier rendition of the story) how terrible this choice is - must be the anti-Union bit.....so many want so badly to be considered conservative except when it becomes personally inconvenient - then they're all for the Uncle Sugar Gravy Train...
We lost a whole generation to substandard teaching in the urban areas. This needs to change if we want the America where anyone poor can rise above. It is next to impossible to do with substandard UNIONIZED teaching.
Oh, just as an FYI to those who might think otherwise, there will be no laudatory references anywhere—except in this message, of course—to how this would be the first Korean-American woman ever named to a Cabinet post (what diversity!), how Trump is demonstrating that he is not a misogynist, nor how Trump is reaching across the aisle to consider a Democrat for his Cabinet. No, the narratice will continue to be Trump, the racistsexisthomophobicbigotGODHELPUSselectednotelectedunfitforofficegrabembytheyouknowwhatjerk.
Lost me right there. I heard Dr Larry Arnn, President of Hillsdale College is under consideration also. I like that him better.
Again...everyday is like Christmas!!
THIS is NOT "winning."
If this article is correct, Rhee supports the disastrous 'Common Core.'
I saw that too, and it was news to me as well... but Trump has promised to flush Common Core so there’s not much she can do or say about it really.
This article could be one of those “tests” I hear Trump likes to engage in... send it out there, see what the supporters think. And here we are..!
I recall this women being int the news a while back. She’s a huge thorn in the side of liberal edumacators. I do like that.
Being "public enemy #1" to the teachers' unions is a good thing, but I think I would rather move on to public enemy #2, and find a conservative who is opposed to common core (and favors dismantling the department).
To the Unions, students are simply a human-shield to protect them while they pillage....Seriously, I feel like posting a picture of WWE’s “The New Day”, unicorn horns and all!
>> Rhee is a lifelong Democrat, and a proponent of Common Core
I agree, this is a problem. IIRC, there was also a problem with her profiteering from her decisions when she was in DC? I’m not positive on this one, but worth checking.
Put me down for a dozen “LIKES”.......
