It's time to kill the Electoral College
The Week ^ | November 16, 2016 | Paul Waldman

Donald Trump's collected tweets on the subject of the Electoral College are a work of transcendent numbskullery.

"If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y., Florida, and California, and won even bigger and more easily," he tweeted on Tuesday morning, perhaps realizing that losing the popular vote raises questions about the legitimacy of his presidency, let alone any "mandate" he might have. "The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!" he tweeted six minutes later.

Deja vu from 2000. All these article being resurrected from archives does not state what is the alternative popular vote system that should replace the electoral college. Does the writer want a one round first-past-the-post system or some sort of multi-round run off system? These articles do not even bother to look at the experience of other countries with elections for presidents with meaningful power to see how changing the way the POTUS is elected could dramatically alter the party system in the US.

What a bunch of horse squeeze. Were popular votes in question, then the results would have to wait until all votes were tallied, i.e. absentee. Subtract fraudulent votes such as dead people and illegal aliens, then Trump won by a landslide.

It’s been clear from the start; Socialists WANT America taken down a few notches and run just like, ‘Cuber’ or Venezuela.

Of course, THEY’LL be the ones IN CHARGE, ‘cuz they’re the SMARTEST! The rest of us will be fodder.

OK,FAIR ENOUGH.AMEND THE CONSTITUTION!

But remember...a two-thirds vote of the both the House *and* the Senate...

Then, three quarters of the 50 state legislatures must approve.

I can think of at least 20 states that wouldn't even vote on it,let alone approve it.

There’s no way the States will cede their power to mob rule.

This article is absolutely incoherent.

It seems to be arguing both sides of the issue against each other.

Tell this commie Waldman that we might talk about the electoral college right after we get positive voter ID to insure identity and citizenship of each voter.

I like how the geniuses who were 100% wrong about Trump for a year and a half and are wrong now and who demonstrate their vapidity on a continual basis persist in demonstrating how inane they are by accusing Trump of being an idiot. I give them that, they are consistent. Consistent morons.

Losing the popular vote?

Hillary lost the popular vote too, in that, she got about 47.7% of the vote. She didn’t get a majority of the vote. Well over 50% voted against her.

Hillary has a plurality but not a majority.

Bill Clinton got elected twice with only a plurality of the vote. Yet the liberals didn’t bitch about how unfair it was that he got elected with only 43% of the vote in 1992. Back then they were happy the electoral vote made him a clear winner.

Give each county in the country one vote and a liberal would never again be elected.

I recall that before the 2000 election, Al Gore had an interview supporting the electoral college...for at the time it was speculated he might win the electoral vote while Bush won the so called "popular vote". History can be ironic.

OK,FAIR ENOUGH.AMEND THE CONSTITUTION!

All the more reason for the left, too, to get on board with a Convention of States.

The purpose of the current COS is to limit the federal government.

Good luck to leftists everywhere convincing the states to ratify an amendment to get rid of the electoral college based on that limiting the federal govt.
