Because stuffing ballot boxes in all 50 states is a monumental task, fraught with risk of exposure.

Much easier to cheat in a handful of precincts, deep within liberal strongholds.

Liberals are not too smart. They are also not aware of our history. Do they believe for one moment that 32 states are going to vote to overturn the EC? Thus giving all power to NY and CA every election to choose the POTUS.

“— The New York Times recently published a piece titled “The Electoral College Is Hated by Many. So Why Does It Endure?””

It is there to guard against a tyranny of the majority. Pure democracy is potentially the single most tyrannical form of government - 50% + 1 voters could enslave or kill any one of the other 50% - 1 voters. THAT is why we have a system that is NOT majority rules; you need supermajorities to change big things, and even certain things are forbidden unless you can REALLY get a big supermajority (like changing the Constitution).

So, NY Slimes, your stuck with the Electoral College, just as the Founders intended. You simply will NOT be able to get 38 states to agree to eliminate it.

If it were according to popular vote, the candidates would all concentrate on big urban centers (where the potential voter concentration is highest), and the rest of us would never see them. Nor would candidates care about the concerns of flyover country.

And can we all just ignore then and chill. the popular vote total is not even in yet. it’ll take awhile. she might be ahead in the end but maybe not.
either way not all will ever be counted in states where there isn’t anything going on where absentee ballots will actually matter.

The solution to the Electoral College “problem” is simple. Get two-thirds of both the House and the Senate to vote for a Constitutional Amendment to abolish it and then convince three-fourths of the states to ratify it. Of course that means that only thirteen ignorant, rural, fly-over states can thwart the will of the sophisticates in the coastal states. It is almost as if the Constitution was structured so that the states are sovereign entities instead of just being administrative subdivisions of FedGov.

And I might add, a popular vote system would mean that parties would nominate only urban nominees with big appeal in urban centers, and would construct platforms of interest mainly to urbanites.

Without the electoral college, then in theory, a single city could determine who would be President, provided that the voting population of the city was sufficiently large.

Sure, we’d win by bigger figures even in big blue states!

Only thing preventing even worst voter fraud than current is the electoral college.

PA did NOT put him ahead. DT was at 270 w/o PA and MI. The media was being the shameless bias sham on election night they’ve always been. They never called Arizona, Alaska, and the split EV in Maine, which added up had him at 270 for an hour before they called PA. And they only called PA once Hillary’s camp gave them permission by releasing information that she called to concede.

Trump won the popular vote in 30 out of 50 states. The end.

Re Post #4 ~

*Most have no idea why those brilliant men centuries ago did it this way*

True. I have had to explain the concept to many HRC voters I know (and some who never bothered to vote) - none of which had a problem wining by the very same process.

They invariably don’t want to hear that - they insist we change the rules in the middle of the game. I know better, this is why I normally don’t debate with imbeciles...

We WILL Make America Great Again; with or without their cooperation!

It is hated by the few high-population states that would benefit by its elimination. Unfortunately for them amending the constitution requires getting most of the other states on board. States that would lose their ability to have a say in future elections. Not bloody likely.

If you get rid of the Electoral College, you must also disband the United States Senate.

Of course, no Electoral College will end up leading to a new Civil War, but the Progressives don’t realize it.
