I'm not confident any other figure in American politics will have the ability or desire to fight the Establishment and maintain course if President-elect Trump is successful.
I’m troubled by the emphasis on “infrastructure” and the public spending he proposes. This is right out of the big-government playbook to support union jobs. Most the things he mentions (roads, bridges, airports, hospitals, schools) are and should be in the purview of the state and local governments. We do NOT need another $1 Trillion or $2 Trillion “stimulus” program to “rebuild crumbling infrastructure.”
To the extent that a robust economy growing 4% a year generates the capital to pay for this, I’m all in. To the extent that Trump can be the cheerleader to get state and local investment flowing (subject to state and local voter approval), I’m all in.
But I damn well do NOT want to see huge increases in federal deficits to pay for this. I don’t know how he’s going to square the circle of fiscal responsibility with grandiose dreams of “rebuilding infrastructure.”
Coupled with 2 term limits this will work.
Superb analysis.
Good post, thanks. Bkmking for later reference.
It could take some time to get things started, but remember Trump is a businessman and thinks very differently than a politician. Return on investment and bottom line thinking, as an example.
He is also a leader - one of the best I have ever seen. A great leader can make a difference for those that follow.
Thanks for posting this.
