Thanks to the liberal policies on education content, the government has been trying to mainstream youth through the system without making every effort to teach them skills while providing information to apply to them. This is why so many are able to balance a checkbook with the requirement of a calculator, but are illiterate and end up in low level jobs that don’t make enough money to need a checkbook.
My daughter recieved a call from her daughter’s math teacher demanding she not be taught long division at home. The school only wants her to learn by compuer and to use a calculator, period. Her daughter is still being taught long devision at home. I hope she has use for it.

There was parallel slavery, as well, throughout the world but very common in Europe and the Americas. It was called indentured servitude that young people often fell prey to whereby they sold their services to tradesmen for a defined period of time, 5-7 years, for little or no compensation in exchange for room and board and experience in a trade as an apprentice. It was the only “education” they received. This generation is woefully ignorant of how good they have it in today’s America.
